Arsenal vs Crystal Palace Predictions, Betting Tips & Preview

Match Preview

Arsenal could be facing neighbours Crystal Palace at the worst possible time as Arsene Wenger’s season goes from bad to worse. Losing home games is the only way Arsenal’s season could deteriorate any further and a win is crucial here.

Game: Arsenal vs Crystal Palace

Venue: Emirates Stadium

Kick-off: Saturday, 20th January, 3.00pm

Arsenal and Crystal Palace have already met once this season as Alexis Sanchez stole the show at Selhurst Park. The little Chilean remains an Arsenal player at the moment, but no doubt fresh interest and talks are taking place daily. Sanchez scored a four-minute brace to secure a 3-2 win for the Gunners.

That victory was just Arsenal’s second in their last nine games and it means Wenger’s men are the only side to beat Arsenal in the last 11 Premier League games. Roy Hodgson’s men have now pulled themselves up to 12th in the table and could move into the top half with a win here.

Despite Arsenal’s current league form, it’s worth noting the Gunners have lost only once to Palace in 10 home games since the Premier League began. If the Eagles were to earn something here it would be Hodgson’s biggest achievement so far.

Reasons for Betting Tips

Arsenal are clear favourites on the back of strong overall home form at 8/15 with Betfred whilst the draw is available at 1/2 with Paddy Power. Visitors Palace are a big price at 19/4 with Bet365.

Despite Palace’s current it’s a big ask to win at the Emirates. Arsenal have wobbled, winning just once in their last four here. They had begun the season with seven straight victories which came despite their continual poor away form. But no side has made light work of Palace for a couple of months and that trend should continue even if they lose here.

Arsenal have goals in them, that’s clear. At home the Gunners are especially dangerous and have scored five in their last two games against Liverpool and Chelsea. They won neither of those games which shows that anyone who faces Arsenal also have goals in them. Palace are dynamic enough on the break to cause Arsenal’s injury-hit back line a problem here.

Back our Score Prediction: 2-2 draw at 12/1 with Stan James

Of Arsenal’s last nine goals in all competitions, four have been scored by defenders and they also benefited from an own goal. Whilst it’s nice to see deeper areas of the pitch chipping in, Arsenal’s front line clearly isn’t firing at the moment. Palace don’t have that problem as they’ve scored in eight of nine. Bakary Sako has been a big part of their goal threat, but Wilfried Zaha isn’t getting the goals he deserves, and a performance from him here will be crucial to Palace earning anything.

Back our Scorer Prediction: Wilfried Zaha at 4/1 with Betfred
