Bosnia-Herzegovina vs Belgium Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Match Preview

Belgium can relax ahead of a tricky trip to Bosnia knowing that their place at the World Cup is assured. There’s no time to relax for Bosnia, who are followed closely by Greece and must win both of their games to guarantee second place.

Game: Bosnia-Herzegovina vs Belgium

Venue: Stadion Grbavica

Kick-off: Saturday 7th October, 5PM

Belgium became the first team to put two feet in Russia 2018 when they thrashed Gibraltar 9-0 and showed spirit in a 2-1 win over Greece on the last matchday. Their unbeaten campaign so far has included an emphatic 4-0 win over their hosts here Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Bosnia find themselves in second place in the group with a narrow one point lead over Greece. The Bosnian team also have the extra cushion of a good goal difference should it be needed, but Greece will have the opportunity to catch up with fixtures against Cyprus and Gibraltar.

It’s a tough task to face Belgium in a competitive qualifier and win. The last side to beat one of Europe’s up and coming sides in this region in a competitive game where future World Cup winners Germany in 2010, whilst Wales also recorded a narrow victory in 2015. Belgium have won their last nine away WCQ games.

Reasons for Betting Tips

It’s a competitively priced game at the Stadion Grbavica on Saturday evening, as hosts Bosnia are priced at 17/10 with Sky Bet. The draw can be backed at 9/4 with Coral whilst visitors Belgium are best odds 13/8 with Bet365.

It’s a big ask for a Bosnian side that seems to have tailed off in recent years. Their last World Cup qualifying campaign was a dominant one, and Bosnia provided a stiff test for Argentina in the World Cup proper. Their comfortable results against Greece from that campaign have gone unmatched, and their first meeting with Belgium was rather lopsided.

There’s nothing to suggest that playing at home is enough to close a four-goal gap given both sides build up to this game, but the saving grace for Bosnia could be motivation. This is little more than a runout and week off from domestic action for the Belgians who can afford to rotate and relax a little bit here.

It goes without saying that Roberto Martinez will want to win this game just like any other, but it’s hard to see what the motivating factor is here for the visitors. Bosnia, whether they quite have the quality or not, have to play to their advantages and have the biggest possible motivation. If they can make the atmosphere a hostile one, that’ll help, too.

Bosnia were breached early and often in Belgium and the visitors have scored at least two goals in their last nine away qualifiers. Bosnia are one of their tougher opponents during that time, although not as strong as the Welsh or Croatian teams that still fell by the wayside during that time. If they do topple Belgium, it’ll be a tight one, and few teams keep them out.

Back our Score Prediction: Bosnia 2-1 at 8/1 with Bet365

Belgium are likely to field a strong team, but it’s not a certainty. Romelu Lukaku is on fire but would probably appreciate a bit of a break in one of these two games, whilst Dzeko and Ibisevic are Bosnia’s main threat at home. Set pieces could be one of few ways past this Belgium team, so Edin Dzeko could have a starring role to play.

Back our Scorer Prediction: Edin Dzeko to score at odds of 21/20 with Betfred
