Celta Vigo vs Manchester United Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
The fourth and final of four entertaining knockout games this midweek sees Manchester United travel to take on Celta Vigo. Although United are favourites to progress, the Spanish side should be fresher after resting their XI. Below are our match predictions, betting tips and preview.
Game: Celta Vigo vs Manchester United
Venue: Estadio de Balaidos
Kick-off: Thursday 4th May, 7.45pm
Manchester United and Celta Vigo have had less than ideal preparation for this game, but the Spanish side did have the opportunity to rest near enough their starting XI on the weekend. They were beaten 3-0 at home by Bilbao but it’s been clear for a few weeks now their sole focus has been on the Europa League. Celta have tailed off and lost five of six domestically - their worst run of the season.
Manchester United are coming in to a few injury concerns at the wrong stage of the season. Mourinho’s men will need to be fighting fit to deal with the upcoming fixture build up, especially if they were to reach the final. United play just four days beforehand and although a Europa League win means a trophy and Champions League football, it’s hard to put your eggs in one basket.
Neither side has had the easiest path to this stage. Although United have made it look easy at times, visiting Feyenoord, Fenerbache, Saint Etienne and Anderlecht in the same campaign is not an easy run of away games. They only managed to win one of them so success at home could be the key for Celta, who showed their worth by winning 2-0 away to Shakhtar Donetsk.
United are favourites at some bookmakers, and Celta are favourites at others. That’s starting to shift as United are taking money and are 9/5 with Bet365, where Celta are also 9/5 and the draw is 11/5.
The game is expected to be a tight one with five of United’s last six European games feature two or fewer goals. Despite being the home side there will be times where Celta will have to just sit in and frustrate United here and take their chances of the counter. Henrikh Mkhitaryan played down the middle in the absence of the big man against City, but United may have to rethink their tactics with Celta the team likely to be sitting off.
Manchester United have been much better away from home this season than they have at Old Trafford. Whether playing with their dynamic front three of Martial, Rashford and Mkhitaryan, or with Zlatan leading the line, United have often lacked a punch against teams who chose to sit off and frustrate them.
Back our Free Betting Tip: Celta Vigo +0.25AH at odds of 7/10 with Bet365.
Not only have United and Celta seen some tight games in this competition, but both sides realise there is a second leg to come. For United that’s where the tie can be won and for Celta, although they’d like to go to Old Trafford in the ascendency, they can’t go flooding forward here and allow themselves to be picked off.
Back our Score Prediction: 1-0 Celta win at odds of 5/1 with Bet365.
Celta can boast of 13 different goalscorers in their Europa League campaign this season which makes them a massive threat. All of their striking options have tallied including Guiseppe Rossi. Of United’s last 11, nine have been scored either by the absent Zlatan or Mkhitaryan who will be closely watched here. Despite the team effort, Iago Aspas has been the danger man all season for Celta.
Back our Scorer Prediction: the former Liverpool man Aspas to dent United’s chances at odds of 6/4 with Bet365.
