Leicester City vs Atletico Madrid Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Here are two teams very much built in the same mould, even if Leicester’s mould is falling apart this season. City only trail 1-0 from the first leg and have every chance of making more history here. Below are our match predictions, betting tips and preview.

Game: Leicester City vs Atletico MadridVenue: Kingpower StadiumKick-off: Tuesday 18th April, 7.45PM

Leicester City were only beaten 1-0 thanks to a very controversial penalty decision in the capital of Spain last week and have every chance of playing their way back in to this tie. Despite their inconsistent Premier League season the Foxes have found form under Craig Shakespeare and have already eliminated Sevilla - a side who have beaten Atletico this season.

The Foxes over turned a first leg one goal deficit against Sevilla and although they had the comfort of an away goal that they didn’t get in Madrid, Leicester advanced without the need for that away goal to decide the tie. The Foxes are in a much more precarious position with a goal from Atletico leaving them needing three.

Whilst it’s not mission impossible it is a big ask. And perhaps any hope garnered from the narrowest of defeats in the first league can be counteracted by assessing Atletico’s Champions League form. Their performances away do not tend to differ. They’ve been beaten four times in 31 ties dating back to mid-2014, with three of those losses coming against Barcelona, Real and Bayern.

Reasons for Betting Tips

Match Predictions and Betting TipsThe odds for this game make Atletico favourites and probably rightly so. Leicester can be backed at 27/10 with Bet365 whilst the draw is available at odds of 12/5. The visitors, Atletico, are 21/20 also with Bet365.

Atletico prepared by resting key players in a routine 3-0 home win over relegation threatened Osasuna on Saturday. The same afternoon Leicester had led 2-0 in London before being pegged back by Palace. Leicester’s revival has been halted by three games without victory but they did at least keep Slimani under wraps and rested at the weekend. City’s concerns come defensively with Morgan out and Benalouane playing 78 minutes of his third game in seven days. Atletico will be his fourth in 10.

The Mor’rock’an has been fantastic at the back for Leicester but his fitness and capabilities will really be tested here and Leicester’s lack of depth may show up against Atleti, who rested Griezmann, Saul, Savic and Gabi at the weekend. Back Atletico -0.25AH at odds of 4/5 with Bet365.

I love the Leicester story as much as anyone and to see them win the Champions League? I’d love it. It’d be incredible. And we should separate them because they are an English side, after all. And an underdog. But Atletico are just a different level of quality and it might just be better for Leicester to narrowly go out with their heads held high rather than be dismantled by the likes of Barcelona. Back a 1-0 Atletico Madrid at odds of 11/2 with Bet365.

Atletico can mirror the first leg here with a narrow win behind an Antoine Griezmann goal. The little frenchmen always steps up when he’s needed. This could be a cagey game with Atletico looking to manage it throughout, and it may take some quality to settle it. Back Antoine Griezmann to break Leicester hearts at odds of 13/10 with Bet365.
