Newcastle vs Leeds Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
Newcastle United have the chance to move back to the top of the table here and depending on other results could also guarantee their promotion with a win here, although it wouldn’t be quite official until next weekend. Below are our match predictions, betting tips and preview.
Game: Newcastle vs Leeds
Venue: St James Park
Kick-off: Friday 14th April, 7.45pm
Leeds have the unenviable task of travelling to a sold out St James park under the floodlights, on the back of one of Newcastle’s more disappointing defeats of the season. Once again they were a clear second best against Sheffield Wednesday but promotion remains in their sights.
Leeds United had wrapped up the playoffs and seemed an outside contender for second place until their 2-0 home loss to Newcastle and despite maintaining good form since, a recent wobble saw their grip on the playoff places slip to just four points. After results favoured the Whites at the weekend, the gap is again six points and just one win could be enough now.
Newcastle have won seven of their last 15 games which constitutes massive inconsistency for a side like themselves and if Leeds need something to cling to, it might be that Newcastle have suffered in stages this season, failing to win a single game on the back of an away loss.
Newcastle are currently 3/5 with Bet365 but are starting to drift. The draw can be backed at best odds of 3/1 with Stan James whilst Leeds United, 5/1 underdogs with Bet Victor, will bid to become the sixth team to win at St James Park this season.
Newcastle’s away losses this season have been followed by a loss at home to Huddersfield, defeat to Nottingham Forest and draws against Birmingham and QPR. And what in the first half of the season looked an unbreachable rearguard has conceded in 12 games since the turn of the year.
Few teams have kept Leeds quiet but when they have it’s been at home. United have been blunt at times away despite the incredible form of Chris Wood. Newcastle will be pushing on here though and nine of the last 13 teams to visit have scored, including some real relegation strugglers, so you’d have to think a side boasting Wood has a good chance.

Leeds dropping points away has been a constant theme all season. It’s done nothing to damage their confidence or overall form, but it’s something they need to address for the playoffs. When it comes to it I think Monk’s side won’t fear playing anyone away when it really matters and there’s not much pressure on them in this game.
Back our Score Prediction: 1-1 draw at odds of 7/1 with Paddy Power
If Leeds United are going to get anything here then Chris Wood will need to play his part up top. That’ll include grabbing a goal, but the Championship top scorer will need to lead the line well and hold the ball up for Leeds. Leeds have been hot and cold scoring away from home, but when they have, Wood has netted 11 of their 31 goals.
Back our Scorer Prediction: Chris Wood to score at 11/10 with 888Sport.
