Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
Atletico and Real have become perhaps the most familiar rivals in the world in recent seasons, and the 11th meetings in just two years will take place when the pair meet for the first of two Champions League semi-finals this week. Below are our match predictions, betting tips and preview.
Game: Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid
Venue: Bernabeu Stadium
Kick-off: Tuesday 2nd May, 7.45PM
These two are no strangers to each other and yet again we’ll be treated to a Madrid Derby with everything on the line. This will be the 11th meeting since the turn of 2015, with sides meeting in other competitions more than they have La Liga. The most notable meeting, perhaps, was the Champions League final that Madrid romped in additional time against a weary Atletico.
As much as we all enjoy the tic for tat nature of these fascinating fixtures, we feel like we’ve got the best of both worlds here. As good as a Madrid and Atleti final could be, we’ve been there and done that several times. The neutral has to be behind Monaco right now and with Real drawing Atletico, it leaves open the option of perhaps the most exciting possible final.
That doesn’t mean we should overlook well drilled Atleti and Juve sides, and Atleti in particular could cause problems. They’ve only lost twice in 90 minutes to Real Madrid in the last 15 meetings and have actually won five of those. The momentum has swung firmly back towards Real in this fixture recently though, but honours have often finished even.
Real Madrid are predictably favourites to win this game but not often will you receive odds of 4/5 with Coral on Real in the Bernabeu. The draw can be backed at 11/4 with Bet365 whilst an Atletico win is available at 7/2 also with Bet365.
When Cristiano Ronaldo gave a flowing Real side the lead after 27 minutes against Valencia, many would have pictured a comfortable afternoon with the likes of Ronny tucked up on the bench by the hour mark. Valencia clawed themselves back into the game and could of lead. Real could lead nothing to chance in their waiting title chase and didn’t lead until the 86th minute.
Atletico were much more comfortable as they put together their most emphatic showing of the season, beating Las Palmas 5-0 away. Griezmann, Gameiro and Giminez were all withdrawn inside 70 minutes and others were rested entirely. Real are a mess defensively right now, allowing 14 in eight, and if Atleti can keep this tight and impose their style then there’s every chance they’ll take a draw at least.
Back our Free Betting Tip: Atletico Madrid +0.5AH at odds of 9/8 with Bet365.
If Real play like they’ve been playing then they’ll leave a lot of gaps for Atleti but inevitably threaten themselves. It’s clear they have to have a bit more of a plan for this game and both sides will want to settle into the game.
Back our Score Prediction: a 1-1 draw at odds of 11/2 with Coral.
Madrid are so open right now any goals Atletico score won’t necessarily be on the break away. They’ll be well in this game and they’ll have periods where they put Real under extended pressure. Griezmann is an obvious choice as a goal scorer but with good. You’d think Atletico’s biggest threat to Real could be set pieces, but Griezmann has netted in Atletico’s last three positive results against Real.
Back our Goal Scorer Prediction: Antoine Griezmann to score at odds of 2/1 with Bet365.
