Match Preview

Swansea will host Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium on Monday evening as they look to turn their fortunes around. It won’t be easy against one of the league’s most potent forces. After beating Man City 4-3, Liverpool have now scored 22 goals in seven games.

Game: Swansea vs Liverpool

Venue: Liberty Stadium

Kick-off: Monday, 22nd January, 7.45pm

The statement victory was a result that also means Liverpool have lost just twice in 23 Premier League games and remain unbeaten through their last 18 in all competitions. It’s a tough ask for Swansea to compete with that sort of form, but they have previous.

The head to head fixtures do show that Swansea have beaten Liverpool in each of the last two seasons, 3-2 at Anfield and 3-1 here, and they’ve also netted six in Liverpool’s last four visits to this ground. There has been some entertaining fixtures between the pair with three of the last four featuring at least four goals.

But the Swansea team that awaits Liverpool on Monday evening is a very different one. They’re lacking quiet in the final third and scraping for their Premier League status, but apparently not hard enough. Swansea are rock bottom of the league on just 17 points.

Reasons for Betting Tips

Swansea are a whopping 25/2 with Unibet despite playing at home here. The draw is available at 4/1 through Betfred whilst Sky Bet go just 3/10 on Liverpool. Those are some confident odds on an away side.

But the odds are, on the balance of play so far, merited. Swansea have been poor and their big signings have let them down. Without Alfie Mawson they’d arguably already be dead and buried. Liverpool’s attack is still likely to cause chaos for the Swans who can’t keep top teams out. United, City and Spurs all won by 2+ here and Liverpool beat Swansea 5-0 just three weeks ago.

Going from 5-0 to a competitive game is a very big jump in the space of three weeks. Away disadvantage to home advantage or not, Swansea are clearly a struggling side and at the moment seem to have slim survival prospects. At home they’ve lost 63% of their games and five of those losses have seen them concede at least twice.

Back our Score Prediction: Liverpool 3-0 at 15/2 with Betfair

Salah didn’t manage a goal in Liverpool 5-0 rout of Swansea, but he did play a part in three of the goals, producing two direct assists. Swansea were lost amidst Liverpool’s speedy attacking play and with the performances of Sadio Mane lately it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him score his third goal in four starts.

Back our Scorer Prediction: Sadio Mane at 7/5 on Ladbrokes
