Bristol Rovers vs Rochdale Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
The Pirates will hope to start re-building what was one of the best home records in the country prior to their lose to Bolton, whilst Dale will be hoping for their first win of a so far dreadful season. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.
Game: Bristol Rovers vs Rochdale
Venue: Memorial Stadium
Kick off: Saturday 10th September, 3pm
Bristol Rovers seem fantastic value to me here. Rochdale have drawn two and lost four and saw themselves beaten late on against newly promoted Oxford. Oxford certainly are not as strong as Rovers, and it was a game that the visitors once again had the better of, but they lacked the quality and final punch.
Rovers find themselves a couple of places and points above Rochdale in the relegation zone, but that may be misleading. They have two games in hand on the rest of the league and a pair of wins would seem jump in to the playoffs in this early season table. They’ve picked up four points with their two losses coming to league leaders Bolton and also a Scunny side who have been devastating at home.
Rovers have actually been performing very well and deserved a 2-2 draw against Wanderers. Even against Scunthorpe you can make a case for them in a game they lead and dominated up until the hour mark. Odds of 6/4 seem like a very good price to me.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
As we’ve already revealed Bristol Rovers are best odds 6/4 with Betway and we’re a big fan of those odds. This is a team who will finish comfortably in the top half. The draw can be backed at 12/5 with Betfred whilst the visitors are available at 9/5 with Betfair to get their first win of the season.
The thing about a promoted team is that they have momentum. Oxford have continued what was superb home form during their promotion season, whilst Northampton remain unbeaten this season. Rovers have been the slowest starters on paper, but I think they’ve lost to two teams who will finish in the top five. You have to allow teams a certain amount of time to gel.
The table may show a side inside the relegation zone with four points, but facts show that plus a side with two games in hand, who came from 2-0 down against Chelsea and nearly forced a 3-3 draw at the death after knocking out Championship Cardiff in the previous round.
Rochdale’s best result so far this season has been a 1-1 draw away to Sheffield United. They were probably deserved of all three points at Oxford despite losing late on, but they’ve not shown the quality or ruthlessness required at this level. Rochdale’s cup run was ended by QPR.
We’ve already made our feelings known on these odds. Bristol Rovers to win at 6/4 with Betway is our free betting tip here.
It’s been tight in Rochdale games this season. Whilst Rovers have had no problems scoring, Cardiff are the only team they’ve kept out. There’s been 24 goals in seven Gas games this season, so I don’t think we’ll see a scrappy affair here.Bristol Rovers to win 2-1 is priced at 17/2 with Bet365.
Every time Bristol Rovers have won over the past year, one man’s name has often been on the score sheet. Matty Taylor has scored 14 goals in Rovers’ last 15 league wins. Back the little man to net at best odds 17/10 with Paddy Power.
