Club Brugge vs Leicester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
Leicester have a favourable group considering, but even this will be a very tough game. Brugge struggle away, but only Anderlecht have beaten them at home in their last 23 league games. Leicester are after all the Champions of England though and enter this game as favourites. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.
Game: Club Brugge vs Leicester City
Venue: Jan Breydelstadion
Kick off: Wednesday 14th September, 7.45pm
We’ve been calling it a favourable draw for Leicester, but it’s just as favourable for the home side in truth. This is Leicester’s first taste of Champions League football whilst this current Brugge squad have never experienced either. It was 2005 when the Belgian club last played a UCL game.
They can however say they have extensive Europa League experience and they’ve faced some stiff competition on this ground and you shouldn’t overlook that. Just last season the home side beat Legia and pushed Napoli all the way. They did begin their European campaign with a qualifier against Man Utd that saw them beaten 4-0, though.
When you consider the struggles United had last season that result certainly does make you think twice about the home team here. Leicester have moved
to add some depth that should help them with these games, and the likes of Ahmed Musa are expected to feature from the start.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
Club Brugge are 21/10 with Bet365 to win this game, whilst the draw can be backed at 9/4 with Ladbrokes. Leicester are the favourites at 8/5 with William Hill, so all three outcomes are well above evens. There must be some value to be found.
The risk with both teams is that they are a lottery in this competition. The fact that both are recently very inexperienced at Champions League makes it easier to take their general form in to account, but I think the Europa League outings make Club Brugge better prepared for this occasion.
It goes without saying the quality between the Belgian and English league is vast though, so there’s a gap to be bridged here. It will be a very partisan crowd, leaving just the players to do their bit. This Leicester team are so used to finding ways to win and with a slow start to their domestic campaign I think they’ll very much enjoy these occasions with little pressure on them. Leicester City to win at 8/5 with William Hill is our free betting tip for this game.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see a cagey start from both sides and defences could spend long periods of this game on top. Leicester are very, very organised and it’ll be tough for the Belgian team to break them down. The hosts may even settle for being on the back foot at times and could look to sit quite deep. I don’t expect a high scoring game, so Leicester to win 1-0 is worthy of consideration at 7/1 with Paddy Power.
I think Islam Slimani would be perfect for this game. It could be cagey and I don’t see Vardy or Musa getting too much space in behind, so it’ll take a bit of magic to force a break through. Slimani scored for fun domestically and in Europe against similar level of opposition last season. Back Islam Slimani to score at odds of 11/5 with Betfair.
