Game: Ecuador vs Chile
Venue: Estadio Olimpico
Kick-off: Thursday 6th October, 10pm
Ecuador began their campaign with four consecutive wins and a draw, before recently tailing off and losing their last three qualifiers. They left Venezuela, Argentina, Bolivia and Uruguay in their wake. Away wins against Argentina and Uruguay show that they didn’t just make light work of lesser opposition, but instead that Ecuador are a serious threat.
Chile have won three, drawn two and lost three of their qualifiers. They also began well with a 2-0 win over Brazil, remaining unbeaten through their first three games. Argentina and Uruguay put pay to that and now Chile will now they need to make the most of this round of fixtures with what’s looming.
Any kind of result here would be a big positive ahead of their home meeting with Peru later in the week. The next two round of games sees them travel to Colombia and Uruguay before hosting Argentina, so they’ll know the importance of getting a positive result here.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
Hosts Ecuador are best odds 6/5 with Betfred to get back to winning ways here, whilst the draw can be backed at 12/5 through Bet Victor and Ladbrokes. Chile are 5/2 with Boylesports to record an away win here.
Both of these sides will see this as a good opportunity to get back on track after an unsteady run of form, but both will need to tighten things up at the back. Neither side have had any issues scoring goals, as both sides have registered 13 in 8 games. That’s even after Chile were held scoreless twice, so these teams have been capable of being prolific on the right occasion.
Whilst Chile have failed to win twice on their road, their other two away games has seen them strike eight goals. It wasn’t a huge surprise to watch them draw 0-0 with a defensive performance. When teams have been willing to attack this Chile side, it’s produced entertaining, end to end games. Ecuador should do exactly that.
That has continued through both of these teams games has been goals. It’s been a lively qualification group so far, with Uruguay and Argentina being the only teams to avoid conceding more than a goal per game on average. Our free betting tip is Over 2.5 goals at 23/20 with William Hill.
Which way this game goes is a lottery once these two teams start attacking. It depends who performs best on the day. Ecuador had managed two goals in each of their home games until the visit of Brazil, but they deserved to get amongst the goals in that game. Chile can’t keep a clean sheet away. Back a correct score of 2-2 in this game at best odds 16/1 also with William Hill.
Goals could come from anywhere on the pitch in this game, but Arturo Vidal has four in qualifying so far and although they’ve yet to earn one, he’s also on penalty duty. Caicedo was the catalyst for Ecuador’s winning run but has failed to score since. Back Arturo Vidal to score at odds of 7/2 with Bet365.
