Leeds United vs Wigan Athletic Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
Leeds United could consider themselves slightly unlucky not have stolen a win on the weekend, late alone lose the game. Wigan
have yet to win a game on their travels and sit 22nd. Below are our match predictions, betting tips and preview.
Game: Leeds United vs Wigan Athletic
Venue: Glanford Park
Kick-off: Tuesday 18th October, 7.45pm
Gary Monk is starting to tick a lot of boxes at Leeds United. The Whites were beaten 1-0 by Derby at the iPro, but you could argue any one of their three strikes off of the woodwork could have seen Leeds at least draw the game. Fans of Leeds can’t deny that even in defeat, there teams are thoroughly competing in each and every minute of games now.
Monk also said at the start of the campaign that for Elland Road to be a place where teams come with realistic hopes of winning is just unacceptable. He’s slowly addressing that problem also, as United have now won five games in a row at home.
Wigan are on a run away from home also – although theirs is a winless one. They’ve lost six and drawn one of their away games, picking up their first point on their travels in fortunate 0-0 draw with Brentford just before the international break. Wigan are in the habit of losing narrow games, whilst Leeds are in the habit of winning them at home.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
Leeds United are 13/10 with William Hill to win their sixth game in a road at Elland Road. The draw can be backed at 12/5 with Bet Victor whilst visiting Wigan are 16/5 with Coral, but unlikely to get their first away win.
There was a time when the sheer thought of Leeds United competing against a fellow Yorkshire side at home brought fear of embarrassment and disappointment.
At one point, it probably felt like that against any side, with barely 15,000 inside Elland Road.
Gary Monk has not only addressed the on-field issues to an extent, but he’s lifted the fans and re-built bridges that have spent the last decade burning. Even with Massimo Cellino in charge, Leeds United are starting to make quick progress. Wigan will settle down at this level, but they haven’t got the hang of setting up to play away from home yet, and they could struggle under the pressure of this atmosphere. Back Leeds United to win at 13/10 with William Hill.
Despite having suffered six losses on their travels, no one has really blown Wigan away. Despite allowing 13 goals during those six losses, Wigan were
only beaten by the odd goal on each occasion. Four of their last five games have seen one goal or fewer, whilst Leeds five home wins were all by
the odd goal also. Back Leeds United to win 1-0 at odds of 6/1 with Bet Victor.
The man who is in form for Leeds United is Chris Wood. He’s receiving some superb services, mostly from the magic Pablo Hernandez is producing each and every game, and now that he’s been given half a chance, he’s proving to Leeds fans that he is a goal scorer. Back Chris Wood to score at odds of 7/4 with Bet365.
