Leicester City vs FC Porto Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
Leicester were massively undone by poor defending again on the weekend, conceding four for the third time this season. Porto will be a tough nut to crack, so the Foxes can't afford any slips. Below are our predictions, betting tips and preview.
Game: Leicester City vs FC Porto
Venue: King Power Stadium
Kick-off: Tuesday 27th
As much as I personally believed this season would be a struggle for Leicester, I thought it would be more done to a squad lacking too much depth having to deal with the Premier League, cups and the Champions League. I didn't think it would have anything to do with the Foxes completely forgetting how to defend.
Even if Leicester do go on to struggle this season, I don't think anyone thought they'd lose so emphatically to anyone. Having lost just three games all of last season, Leicester have already lost that many games by a margin that seen them give away four goals.
Chelsea (with the help of extra time), Liverpool and United have all stuck four past Leicester and they have the likes of runaway leaders Man City to come soon. Yet their defense was so well organised against Club Brugge in what was a typical Leicester performance.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
The home side Leicester are 13/10 favourites with Paddy Power but that price seems to be drifting. The draw can be backed at best odds 12/5 at the same outlet whilst a Porto win is available at 28/11.
I would be rather concerned or Leicester if they put in a repeat performance of the weekend here, but I don't think it will happen. Their may even be an argument for the Leicester players just being more geared towards their European games at present. Chelsea was an extra time affair with 10 men after all, and they were in the wrong place at the wrong time against United.
Anyone facing Liverpool at the moment is in the wrong place at the wrong time. The blue prints for stopping Porto are very much in place from years and years of nothing but defensive game plans at the Dragao, but there's a key difference between those teams and Leicester. Already this season I've watched Porto struggle to break down Estoril at home, and with this game in mind I watched them against Tondela at the weekend. Teams do frustrate Porto and although they often find the break through, they do have those nights where they run out of ideas.Truth be told the problem for the teams defending is that even if they hold Porto, they really don't have anything going forward. Leicester's regular game plan is an identical match of the blue prints teams use against Porto domestically, except we know Leicester have the quality to score every time they break, so Porto are more likely to be punished here. I thin City will bounce back from their weekend performance. Back Both Teams to Score at best odds 10/11 with William Hill.
Leicester will let Porto have possession here, so they'll have to be at their best defensively. I think they may be too fragile to keep them out at the moment, but even a draw would represent a very good result for the home side. You can bet on a score of 1-1 at odds of 6/1 at Bet Victor.
Islam Slimani should be right at home here. He took apart Porto's season last year as Sporting nearly beat the big two to the title. He registered five goals in three games against Porto, including a brace in a 2-0 win and the only goal of a 1-0 win. Back the Algerian to score here at odds of 2/1.
