Portugal vs Andorra Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
Portugal’s qualifying campaign starts here. They were beaten 2-0 in Switzerland without the services of Ronaldo, but they’ll be back at full strength here. Andorra are the perfect opponent to ease back in to things. Below are our predictions, betting tips and preview.
Game: Portugal vs Andorra
Venue: Estadio Municipal de Aveiro
Kick-off: Friday 7th October, 7.45pm
Portugal’s first competitive game since winning the European Championships in France saw them come an emphatic best to Switzerland. They threatened in spells, but they were beaten 2-0 and thoroughly outclassed by the hosts. Portugal are playing catch up early on but looking for them this game should be a foregone conclusion.
You never want to be too insulting of a teams chances, but it doesn’t really get much better at this level. Andorra haven’t won a single game in the past 10 years. They’ve managed four draws from 85 games, but that’s as good as it gets. They’ll keep plugging away, but they’re going to be pulled apart here.
A vast majority of their losses have been by three or more goals. They’re a tiny nation with little to no chances of really improving, and their close fought losses have only ever come against teams the likes of Estonia and Azerbaijan’s quality. Portugal should wipe the floor with their opponents here.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
Portugal are an incredibly short price at 66/1 with Bet365 to record an inevitable win, whilst both the draw at 33/1 with Ladbrokes and an Andorra win at best odds of 125/1 with Coral are monumental prices.
The way this game goes really depends on Portugal’s application and attitude. After losing 2-0 in the first game there is certainly a goal difference to consider. Portugal will at least want to put themselves on par with the group leaders, which will require a minimum of a 4-0 win. That shouldn’t be a problem for the hosts even if they’re only half at it.
There can’t be any real threat of an Andorra goal here. They’ve managed something like four in 30 away from home, and they’ve barely gone in to double figures for overall goals scored on their travels. Ronaldo is the sort of player who just wants to score goals and stand out regardless of the opponent. Back Portugal -4EH at 21/20 with Bet365 as our free betting tip.
Portugal played a weakened team against Gibraltar in a friendly recently and beat them 5-0 here. I think it’s fair to say Gibraltar are a step above Andorra and much more resilient at times despite being a new nation at this level. Back Portugal to win 6-0 at best odds of 9/1 with Paddy Power.
There are currently no odds available for any time goal scorers, and I think we know why. Should they become available then consider looking for odds on Nani to score two or more goals and Cristiano to register three or more.
