QPR vs Sunderland Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
Queens Park Rangers have been rather symmetrical so far. The R's won their first game before drawing and losing the next two, and they've repeated that same cycle since. A 6-0 loss to Newcastle looked damaging, but they competed well at QPR. Sunderland definitely have their own problems. Below are our match predictions, betting tips and preview.
Game: Queens Park Rangers vs Sunderland
Venue: Loftus Road
Kick Off: Wednesday 21st September, 7.45pm
Sunderland have so far made yet another start that suggests they may struggle in the league. I felt they competed very well on the opening day and perhaps deserved a 1-1 draw, yet a late own goal cost them. Typical of the Black Cats. Moyes' men have lost three and drawn one since including a dissapointing home loss to their local rivals.
Queens Park Rangers haven't been convincing but they've shown glimpses. They've won won four, drawn two and lost four of their opening 10 games in all competitions. The R'S have won two, drawn two and lost two at home so far. Given Leeds performance on the day and the fact QPR have only beaten League One opposition though could suggest they're struggling too.
QPR have won their last three meetings with Sunderland which included both of last seasons Premier League meetings. Four of Sunderland's last 10 away league cup games have seen them exit the competitiona against lower league opposition.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
Queens Park Rangers are best odds 2/1 with Bet Victor to win this game whilst the drawn is available at 12/5 at the same outlet. You can back a Sunderland win at best odds of 6/4 if you think Premier League 'quality' will prevail.
This game does present a dillema for Sunderland and Moyes in that they have a much more important game on the weekend after a struggle so far this season, but this is a game that could be used for momentum. Their only win so far this season was a 1-0 win over Rochdale in the previous round of this competition.
Given that this is a League Cup game, you might expect both teams to play without the fear they've exhibited in other games. From Sunderland's point of view they'll need to be careful that they don't play too weakened a team if they do plan to rest players. I think the curse of the League Cup will strike in at least a few of these games, so let's take another shot here. Back QPR to win at odds of 2/1 with Bet Victor.
Sunderland were quite easy to break down in last years cup. They struggled to an eventual 1-0 win in the last round. Man City beat them 4-1 at the stadium of light last year, one game after Sunderland beat Exeter 6-3 in a thriller. I think the R's will play their part in an open game here and won't need to blag a low scoring win if they do come out on top. Back QPR to win 2-1 at odds of 10/1 with Coral.
Picking a goal scorer is once again tricky, but QPR do have a standout candidate if he features. I feel Championship and lower league sides are likely to play their full strength sides more often than not. Back Tjaronn Chery to score at odds of 11/4 with Paddy Power.
