Valencia vs Alaves Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Valencia have made an absolutely shocking start to the season. They’re scoring, but they’re also conceding for fun. Alaves went to the Nou Camp and beat Barcelona in their first season back in the top flight. Below are our predictions, betting tips and match preview.

Game: Valencia vs Alaves
Venue: Estadio de Mestalla
Kick off: Thursday, 22nd September, 9pm

Valencia have had clear problems on the pitch dating back to before the forgettable Gary Neville era, but this is probably a new low. Valencia, a name you expect to see challenging for the Champions League, have lost their first four games which leaves them rock bottom of the league.

They find themselves five points behind newly promoted Alaves who have thus far given a very good account of themselves. Not only did they beat Barcelona, they were probably the better team on the night. It certainly wasn’t a case of just hanging on. They began the season by holding Atletico Madrid to a 1-1 draw.

Not only are Alaves confident, there’s a clear game plan about them. They have a solid, Atletico Madrid like identity, whilst even the Valencia players must be wondering what they’re playing at, at present.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Valencia are best odds 4/7 with Sky Bet. That price can’t be taken seriously the way these teams have performed. In fact, I think it’s lazy. The draw is 16/5 with Bet Victor whilst an Alaves win is best odds 6/1 with Bet365.

Valencia will at some stage get on track and push their way in to the upper (ish) reaches of the tables. Alaves, as a new team, will have some sticky periods when the momentum of current form wears off. But I don’t see how anyone can be happy with Valencia as such a short odds favourite here. They’ve done nothing at all to deserve their price tag.

Let’s remember Barcelona have made one of their emphatic starts to a season, but Alaves went their and beat them 2-1. Alaves’ 95th minute equaliser remains the only goal Atletico have let in through their first give games of the season. Rarely do you see a team with the character to break down Atletico so late in the game.

I’m more than happy to side with the visitors here. ON current form, you just cannot back Valencia. Our free betting tip is Deportivo Alaves: Double Chance at best odds of 31/20 with Coral. Terrific value.

Alaves’ draws have been 0-0, 0-0 and 1-1 thus far. Their highest scoring game was that 2-1 win over Barcelona. I think Valencia’s tempo may dictate a little bit more here, as the hosts seem happy to carelessly fly forward and leave big gaps at the back. Back a 2-2 draw as the correct score here at odds of 20/1 with William Hill.

Between these two sides only Santi Mina has scored more than once (for Valencia) but those both came in the same game. There’s no stand out scorer thus far and the best bet is to just back a striker. Deyverson did show himself to be a threat last season and has a single goal so far this campaign. Back the Brazilian to score at odds of 5/2 with Boylesports.
