Vancouver vs Seattle Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
Major League Soccer is approaching the end of it's regular season, which means five weeks of fantastic playoff action is nearing. There's still plenty of tussling to be done for positioning as these local rivals meet here. Below are our predictions, betting tips and preview
Game: Vancouver Whitecaps vs Seattle Sounders
Venue: BC Place Stadium
Kick off: Monday3rd October, 1am
Seattle are in the precarious position of occupying the playoff positions only on goal difference with three games to go. Vancouver are worse off being six points off of Seattle, but they could close the gap to three here. The hosts has arguably less pressure on them as they already realise reaching the playoffs is unlikely.
Just to make things extra interesting here, fellow Cascadian rival of these two sides, Portland Timbers, are sandwiched in the middle and are just a win away from jumping in to the playoffs themselves. There are so many interesting permutations made better by the fact Vancouver, Seattle and Portland all meet in the final weeks.
This fixture generally generates goals. The last time these two sides met it finished 1-0, but the six games prior had seen at least three goals. Neither side will want to give anything away in this one, though.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
Vancouver are even money with Bet365 and many other bookmakers to beat their rivals here, whilst the draw can be backed at odds of 5/2 with 888SPort. Seattle are looking for back to back wins and are available at a price of 5/2 with Paddy Power.
Seattle come in to this game on the back of a fantastic 4-2 win away to LA Galaxy. It feels like every MLS season in my living memory, Seattle and LA meet at the end of the season and with LA already in a strong position and playing a weakened side, Seattle prevail. On this occasion LA were at full strength and the Sounders have to battle back from behind.
LA tend to meet either Seattle or Vancouver often in the playoffs, and with the Galaxy in with a shot of winning the western conference then they could well be playing a one game against the sixth placed side again.
One thing to consider here is just how inconsistent Seattle can be. They've not won back to back away games at any point during this MLS season. They only managed it once last season and the very beginning. They're also on course to win four games in a row, which is something they haven't done since mid-2014. Just when things start to look good for Seattle, they tend to find a way to mess it up. Back Vancouver Whitecaps to win this game at best odds 1/1 with Bet365.
This could prove to be a cagey game. The pressure is almost more on the hosts because Vancouver have a three shot here. With two rivals above them, they don't epxect to make the playoffs. Seattle will want a result to keep their noses in, but this is a tough game and a draw might be a bad enough result to let Portland sneak in above them. Back Vancouver to win 2-1 at odds of 7/1 with 888SPort.
That spell of poor goal scoring form is well behind Vancouver. They've netted 13 times in five games with the help of some easy opposition in the Champions League, and Erik Hurtado has been the form man through that run. Although the Whitecap strikers only have six goals in 21 games between them.
Jordan Morris has been in good form for Seattle and I would fancy him to score any goal that Seattle do contribute here. The young man has scored 12 in 30 for Seattle, but most of those goals have come in the second half of the season. Back Morris to score at best odds 2/1 with 888Sport.
