Nottingham Forest and Brighton have both started the season in positive fashion, but their defensive performances couldn’t have been more contrasting. Forest have shipped four already whilst the Seagulls are yet to concede, and the two will clash on Friday evening. Below is our match news, prediction and betting tips.
Game: Brighton vs Nottingham Forest
Venue: AMEX Stadium
Kick-off: 1945pm, Friday 12th August
Brighton began their campaign by holding Derby to a 0-0 on their travels. It seemed obvious from the first whistle the hosts had come with the intentions of stifling their opponents, although they did later grow in to the game. The Seagulls had the luxury of fielding a completely changed XI for their 4-0 win over Colchester on Tuesday.
Forest also rung the changes after beating Burton 4-3 on the opening day of the season. The Nottingham club look to be full of goals at the moment, but you have to question their defensive showings. They successfully navigated their midweek cup tie to make it two wins from two, but Doncaster were allowed on to the score sheet in the second half and came with seconds of forcing extra time.
Forest went down 1-0 to a Lua Lua goal here at the start of last season, and I expect the hosts to find it equally hard to break down Albion this time around. If the visitors start leaking chances early on in this one then it could lead to a more open and end to end game once Brighton are on the score sheet, but I think Forest will give a much better account of themselves defensively here, and they’ll have to settle for getting men behind the ball at times.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
Brighton are best odds of 9/10 with Sportingbet, whilst the draw can be backed at 13/5 through the same outlet. If you think Forest can keep on the scoresheet and leave with all three points as they did in two of their last three visits to this ground, then you can bet on an away win at odds of 4/1 with Coral, but those odds alone are quite telling of what we should be expecting here.
This is a fixture that has not seen a great deal of goals over the years, with just 23 being scored in 12 meetings on this ground. 10 of 26 meetings between the sides have finished 0-0 or 1-0 with a lot of those coming with Brighton as the home team. As I’ve said above, I do think this has all the makings of a tight game, but that could depend on whether or not Forest’s defence cave in again. I have to think they’ll want to bounce back this week, because you have to be better than allowing a newly promoted side three goals on your own patch.
Brighton got stronger at home as the season went on and come the end they did hammer out some severe punishment to weak defences, beating Leeds and QPR 4-0, and going one better in beating Fulham 5-0. Any mistakes Forest may make here will almost certainly be punished by the quality on show.
I think Brighton have made several positive starts to their season since joining the Championship, whilst Forest are always very up and down, and I never
know how much I can trust them. They’ve won their first two games but against (it has to be said) fairly weak opposition, yet they’ve still allowed
four goals and made pretty hard work of it. I think they’ll stand up and be counted here, but I don’t know if they’ll have enough punch going forward,
which leads me to believe a 1-0 correct score prediction and a Brighton win could be the outcome. The latter will be our betting tip at 5/6 with Bet365.
If Brighton are going to be successful, then Hemed will need to score goals again this season. You can back the experienced Israeli international to be Brighton’s first goal scorer at a price of 9/4 with Sky Bet.
