Celtic vs Hapoel Be’er Sheva Preview, Prediction and Betting Tips
Celtic left is very late in the last round against Astana, but they eventually qualified as we all expected. The pressure they put on their weaker opponents told but this is no doubt their toughest game of the season so far. Below Is Our Match Predictions, Betting Tips and preview
Game: Celtic vs Hapoel Be’er Sheva
Venue: Celtic Park, Glasgow
Kick off: 7.45pm 17th August
Celtic have been slightly reliant on strong home performances so far in the Champions League, as their away showings have left a lot to be desired. They were historically beating 1-0 by Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar, before falling behind in Astana during a 1-1 draw. The reverse games saw them win 2-1 and 3-0 and they were clearly much more comfortable at home.
Hapoel are more of a threat than what Celtic have faced so far in my opinion. They were strong enough to see off a good Olympiakos team over two legs, drawing 0-0 away and winning 1-0 at home, before also shutting out Sheriff on their travels and coming from behind to win at home.
It will be far from easy for Celtic in the away leg. Hapoel’s stadium is not huge, and it is modern, but it has a very unique look and feel to it. 16000+ fans are very close to the pitch and they’re passionate about their team.Celtic will need to build a first leg lead here, or I fear they could be in store for a surprise exit.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
Celtic are the bookmakers favourites at best odds of 4/6 with William Hill. I personally see novalue in that. That’s not to say I expect Celtic to come up short, but that price is nowhere near worth the risk. The draw is best odds of 3/1 with Bet365 whilst the visitors are rank outsiders at 5/1 with Betfred. Hapoel are currently out of season, but they look to be well prepared having a lot of cup games under their belt and competing well so far in UCL. You may expect Celtic to be slightly fitter, though. Hapoel have lost only to Haifa and Tel-Aviv at home since the turn of 2015, which further highlights the importance of this first leg. They’re an unknown quantity at this level still but their away form domestically suggests they’re there for the beating in Europe. They’ve been very solid defensively so far, but we’ve seen on many occasions that Celtic can beat the best at home, most notably knocking off Barcelona and Ajax. Celtic have struggled to make the most of their possession dominance at times though and we have seen Sheva keep three clean sheets in four, including those back to back against a strong Olympiakos side, so I expect no one to run away with this game.
We’ve seen Celtic allow a goal in three of their four UCL games so far, only managing to keep a clean sheet against Lincoln at home, which is both unsurprising and not flattering in any way. The goals they conceded against Astana were poor and I think they’ll have to be more organised here. Despite playing out two 0-0 games so far, I see Sheva forced in to being more attacking against Celtic.I do really think the home side may struggle to break the visitors down for large parts, hence why my correct score prediction is 1-1 at 6/1 with Bet Victor, who leads us to our free betting tip of Hapoel Be’er Sheva +0.75AH at 39/40 with Bet365.
Now I have the tough task of picking a goal scorer. Consider than Hapoel have drawn both away games 0-0 so far, whilst Celtic have needed contributions off the bench to see them over the line, it’s not easy. I’ve gone for somewhere that holds a more valuable price because it could be one of many in theory.
Hapoel have no stand out 20 goal man but instead four or five who usually reach double digits. One of those is Maor Bugazlo who always tends to turn up in big games and gets goals from midfield. He is best odds of 4/1 to score at any time with Bet Victor.
