Monday - Day 1

5:20 Windsor - Novice Fillies Stakes

The Mick Channon yard can ready one first time up and I'm hoping they score with WHITELEY here. She's a full sister to Divine who is also trained by Channon and is a 6f Listed winner. She's also a sister to Alejandro (5f - 7f) who won over 5f as a 2 year old and is from the family of Group One winner Caradak. Silvestre De Sousa takes the ride which is always a positive.

WHITELEY - 1pt win - 5/1 available with Betfred and Betfair - Lost

7:20 Windsor - 1m Listed Stakes.

LIGHTNING SPEAR is used to contesting at Group level so is fancied to take this Listed race. David Simcock now trains after the defection from the training ranks of Olly Stevens.

He was unlucky not to win the Summer Mile at Ascot last year, he hit all sorts of trouble in running which ultimately cost him the race. He won on debut last summer so no major doubts on how he'll handle the reappearance. He's pretty ground versatile so there's no worries there. He's still an entire at 5 years old so one would assume connections still have aspirations of a stallion career.

LIGHTNING SPEAR - 2pts win - Evens generally available - None Runner

Tuesday - Day 2

5:25 Chepstow - Novice Auction Stakes 5f

CHEVALIER DU LAC ran with great promise when he was 2nd at Beverley last week on debut. His dam won over 5f at 2 as did his grandam. He's from the family of Double Quick and Speedy James both decent sprinters. Trainer John Quinn had a 14% strike rate with his two year olds last season. He's yet to win with a two year yet this season but the yard is in good form. Jockey Jason Hart has had four winners in the last two weeks.

CHEVALIER DU LAC - 1pt win - 11/4 available with SkyBet - Non Runner

Wednesday - Day 3

2pm Worcester - 2m4f Handicap Chase

I've followed THOONAVOLLA's career closely from his days in Ireland, through the pointing field and now under rules here. He must have good or faster ground so if the heavens were to open at Worcester, it would inconvenience him.

Tom Weston is doing a good job with him and looks to have his trip right at around 2m4f - 2m5f. He's won for him at 2m4f on good ground at Southwell.

Just keep an eye on the weather, if the ground stays good then he's definitely a bet.

THOONAVOLLA - 1pt win - 7/2 available with Coral - Won +3.5

2:10 York - 1m2f Handicap

The step back up to 1m2f is certain to suit ERIK THE RED. He was a game winner over the trip at Chester at the back end of last season. He was unlucky over 1m on reappearance at Haydock, he hit trouble in running and just failed to reel in the winner by a neck. This horse is very consistent and has the will to win. The Handicapper was obviously impressed by the Haydock showing as he put him up by another 2lbs.
Trainer Kevin Ryan has a decent 20% strike rate with horses 4yo+ in 2016.

ERIK THE RED - 1pt win - 11/2 available with Ladbrokes - Lost

4:40 Worcester - 2m7f Handicap Hurdle

EASY STREET was a tad unlucky on his first start for over a year on 21st April. He hit traffic coming around the turn and made two jumping errors, eventually went down by half a length. He needs to brush up the jumping but as I said the last time, he's one for the handicaps and he showed so much more at Exeter than he had previously.
He's well bred - a 1/2 brother to Pink Hat and Fort Worth. While his dam is a half sister to the Champion Hurdlers Granville Again and Morley Street.

EASY STREET - 1pt win - 4/1 available with Bet 365 - Lost

Thursday - Day 4

The day started well with THOONAVOLLA winning at Worcester. I thought he did very well as he made a thumping mistake on the first circuit, Sean Bowen's feet were out of the irons. Plus the ground would have been softer than ideal. More good to soft than good.

ERIK THE RED was unlucky in 3rd at York mainly through jockey error. He was ridden too far off the pace and too confidently. Shane Gray then tried to bring him through a gap only to have the door shut in his face. He was travelling like the winner before that.

By the look of EASY STREET's performance, he's feeling something. Looked an uncomfortable 2nd and his tail was slightly raised which can indicate a back problem.

Two selections at York tomorrow -

3:15 York - Dante Stakes (Group 2)

It's fascinating that Frankie Dettori deserts Foundation here and plumps for WINGS OF DESIRE instead. Midterm heads the market for this race but I thought his display was workmanlike at Sandown. I know he's a tad lazy and gets the job done but I genuinely haven't seen a Derby contender yet.

WINGS OF DESIRE has had two starts; winning a maiden at Wolverhampton last time out. On both occasions he was ridden by Robbie Havlin. Delving in to the horses pedigree, he has every right to be considered a contender. He's a brother to Group Two winners Eagle Top and The Lark. His dam Gull Wing was a Listed winner and is a half sister to dual Oaks winner Sariska.

Frankie Dettori is riding with superb confidence at the moment and when that's the case, things go right.

WINGS OF DESIRE - 0.5pts e/w - 7/1 available with Betfair Sportsbook - + 4 points

5:20 York - 2 mile Handicap Stakes

MATORICO had been in decent over timber at the latter part of the 15/16 NH Season. It's interesting that Jonjo O'Neill sends him here, the stable like to land a staying handicap on the flat. Well Sharp took the Ascot Stakes in 2013 and I just wonder if they have that in mind for this horse too. He ran on the level in his native France but this will be his first start on the flat for Jackdaws Castle. Trip and ground will be no problem at all.

MATORICO - 0.5pts e/w - 8/1 widely available - Lost

Friday - Day 5

WINGS OF DESIRE was determined in his victory in the Dante. Given his pedigree, I'm delighted he is going to run in the Derby. He won at 9/1 which was a drift from the advised price of 7s but hopefully many were best price guaranteed.

MATORICO got a very strange ride in the 2miler and the betting was odd too. Hammered into 4s in the morning then drifted to 7s on the off.
Look out for this fella at Royal Ascot.

5 selections for a busy Friday

2:55 York - 5f Listed Fillies Stakes

COOLFITCH won at Ripon in desperate ground last month. It was a depleted field but she showed a great attitude. Conditions will be a lot quicker here but there's no problem with that. Her trainer David O'Meara holds her in high regard and he's boasting a 13% strike rate at the moment.
COOLFITCH is a half sister to three winners.

COOLFITCH - 0.5pts e/w - 11/1 available with Bet365 - Lost

4:40 York - 1m4f Handicap

TOP TUG was 3rd over course and distance last summer when trained by Sir Michael Stoute. Now in the care of Alan King, the stable switch has been a positive move as he won on debut for Barbury Castle on the All Weather at Lingfield. There's plenty of stamina in his pedigree and looks like the ideal dual purpose horse for the Elite Racing Group. It's interesting that Alan King brings him back to the place of his best run in a handicap last year as he's a master at placing his horses.

TOP TUG - 0.5pts e/w - 6/1 available with Ladbrokes - Placed +0.25

5:25 Aintree - 2m4f Mares Handicap Hurdle.

UNBUCKLED ran a blinder at Cheltenham last time out but possibly found the hill a little too much. Aintree will suit her better and she's better at 2m4 as there's less pressure on her jumping as she can belt the odd one. She remains on 117 which is fair. Trevor Whelan gets on very well with her. She's a half sister to the very smart United.

UNBUCKLED - 0.5pts e/w - 6/1 available with Ladbrokes - Lost

7:05 Aintree - 2m4f Handicap Hurdle

WAR SOUND was a non runner in last weeks Swinton, a race he won last year. He does carry top weight but Ciaran Gethings claim relieves 5lbs from the 11-12. You can forget the Betfair Hurdle run in heavy ground, was never put in the race. He was fancied for the County at Cheltenham but wasn't declared He's lightly raced, has had problems but he's talented and from the family of Planet Of Sound and From Dawn To Dusk.

WAR SOUND - 0.5pts e/w - 8/1 available with William Hill - None Runner

7:35 Aintree - 3m Handicap Chase

Bottom weight DEADLY STING appeals here for a number of reasons. There's an awful lot of dead wood in the handicap above him, horses that are seemingly not as in love with the game as they used to be. DEADLY STING likes good ground and can be found in good heart at this time of year. David Noonan takes 3lb off his already featherweight of 10-00. You can forgive the legless third at Cheltenham last time as by the time the race was run, conditions were horrendous. He was dropped 3lbs on the back of that.

DEADLY STING - 0.5pts e/w - 12/1 available with Ladbrokes - Lost

Saturday - Day 8

3:45 Punchestown - 2m Handicap Chase

MR FIFTYONE lost his way slightly last year. He hasn't won since 2014 but there are signs that he could be on the way back as he was 4th in a valuable handicap at the Punchestown Festival behind Bright New Dawn. This race is a much easier contest. Jessie Harrington remains in good form and has seemingly found a perfect opportunity for MR FIFTYONE to get his head back in front.

MR FIFTYONE - 1pt win - 7/2 available with Betfair Sportsbook - Won +3.5

3:55 Newbury - Lockinge Stakes Group 1

We last saw ENDLESS DRAMA in the Irish Guineas a year ago finishes 3/4l second to Gleneagles.

He's been off the track ever since but his trainer Ger Lyons is very positive about his chances. He won on debut in 2014 so not worried about him making a return after so long off the track. He'll handle the going and although his dam only won up to 6f, he's already proved he gets a mile. To me this horse is solid each way value.

ENDLESS DRAMA - 0.5pts e/w - 12/1 Bet Victor and Bet 365 - Placed +1

Sunday - Day 7

Saturday Recap
A better day with MR FIFTYONE obliging for us at Punchestown. As I said in the write up, it was the ideal opportunity for him. Advised at 7/2, he won at 2-1.
ENDLESS DRAMA ran a screamer to be third in the Lockinge. Advised at 12/1 e/w, he went off at 8/1. I hope he lines up in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot.
One bet for Sunday from Killarney

4:50 Killarney - 2m6f Novice Chase
SANDYMOUNT DUKE makes his chase debut here. We last saw him running a blinder when 3rd to Bellshill in the Grade One 3m Novice Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival. That's very strong form and combine that with him usually being in good form at this time of year plus Jessie Harrington remaining in good form, makes him the bet here. Good ground will suit him too.

SANDYMOUNT DUKE - 2pt win - 5/4 - Lost
