Cheltenham Festival 2018 – Tuesday Tips

Cheltenham Festival 2018 is just around the corner and kicks off on Tuesday 13th March with the much-anticipated festival opener, the Supreme Novices Hurdle. Pick up all of your Tuesday race card picks ahead of the day's events and, with seven races on day one alone, there’s plenty to bet on for all punters.

Cheltenham Festival takes place over four days, with each of the four days hosting seven races in all. This gives you twenty eight races in which to place bets on all of your favourites to win or place. However, for many punters, it’s the first day that really matters, offering unparalleled excitement and entertainment. This year the opening day, day one, falls on a Tuesday so we offer you our top picks and tips for Tuesday at Cheltenham for 2018. There are seven races in total to bet on, so let’s break them down one at a time. Resident tipster Gary Priestley will all course e on hand to provide you free horse racing tips through the course of the festival.

Supreme Novices Hurdle

The Supreme Novices Hurdle opens the four day festival and is one of the most attended races out of all twenty eight racing fixtures. This is the chase that kicks everything off and tradition dictates that it begins with the famous ‘Cheltenham Roar’ from the crowd. As the name suggests, this race is strictly for novices and there are plenty of novice entries to pick from. Mengli Kahn is a firm favourite, not only with the crowd but also most top bookies thanks to an impressive end to 2017. This novice is priced at 15.00 on Betfair Exchange, and Paddy Power has recently upped their price to 6-1 to take the hurdle. Other top picks to look out for include Getabird and Samcro at 3.25 and 6.00 respectively.

Arkle Chase

The second race of the day for Tuesday, Arkle Chase offers plenty of betting opportunities with the likes of race (and festival) favourite Footpad leading the way. Footpad currently sits at odds of 2.00 to win and is in some very good company. Keep an eye on other top prospects including Petit Mouchoir and Sceau Royal, posting odds of 6.00 and 7.00 respectively.

Ultima Handicap Chase

The Ultima Handicap Chase is one of the most exciting steeple chases of the festival and is billed as the third race of the day. With a large field of contenders worth considering, Gold Present leads the way here with odds of 13.00 to win the race. Gold Present is followed rather closely by Singlefarmpayment at odds of 15.00, Barney Dwan at odds of 17.00, and one of the darker favourites, Beware The Bear, currently at odds of 21.00.

Champion Hurdle

The fourth race of the day sees an interesting field filled with top picks and favourites including the current favourite to win, BuveurDair. This may be the winner you’re after, and the odds reflect the same at 1.40 to win. Other top favourites include Faugheen, which BetVictor have priced at 7.00, and Yorkhill at odds of 13.00.

OLBG Mares Hurdle

While Apples Jade may not be favoured to win the Champion Hurdle, she certainly is in the driver’s seat in the Mares Hurdle, currently sitting at odds of 1.67. This may be the ideal choice for your Tuesday race card if you are interested in getting your feet wet in this event. Other good options include Marias Benefit, Let’s Dance, and VroumVroum Mag.

National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup

The penultimate race of day one sees Presenting Percy at the top of the board and is currently favoured to win. Presenting Percy is a strong contender and the odds reflect this at 9.00 to win the day. Other good options include Elegant Escape, Mall Dini, and Shattered Love with a chance at the title.

Close Brothers Novices Handicap Chase

The Close Brothers Novices Handicap Chase ends day one on Tuesday and is an excellent way to close off a good day of horse race betting. Tipped to take the race and end day one in style is Hells Kitchen currently priced at 9.00. If you happened to have arrived a bit late on day one, this may be a good race to get your Cheltenham betting campaign off the ground. Also look out for Barney Dwan, Shattered Love, and Divine Spear, all with a good chance at taking it in the last few furlongs.
