Fulham Vs Newcaslte United Betting tips and Match Predictions

It’s the long awaited start of the new Football League season on Friday, as Fulham welcome relegated Newcastle United. It’s also the start of a new era for the Magpies under the stewardship of Rafael Benitez. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.

Game: Fulham vs Newcastle
Venue: Craven Cottage
Kick-off: 1945pm, Friday 5th August

Despite Benitez’s best late efforts, he was always trying to captain a sinking ship to dry land. Newcastle United are in the same position they found themselves in during the 2009/10 season, as they prepare for life in the Championship after the most disappointing of relegation seasons.

Magpie fans will be hoping history repeats itself, as one of England’s biggest clubs bounced back at the first time of asking, making mince-meat of the Championship on route to a record setting 102 points.

Opponents Fulham will have more modest aims as they look to improve on last season’s dismal 20th placed finish. The London club are 10th in the list of Championship favourites to make the play-offs, but I’d have to dispute such odds.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

The signs have been positive for both clubs during pre-season as Fulham have toppled both Crystal Palace and league rivals Brighton at home, registering 3-1 and 3-0 score lines, but I do think their squad on the whole is lacking. Ross McCormack will be a threat as always, but Fulham have a lot to address defensively after last season.

Newcastle have been more impressive though, registering wins against Dutch top flight opposition in Vitesse, 3-2, and an emphatic 4-0 victory away to a Lokeren side who are no pushover in the Belgian league. United are in extremely good shape having retained a lot of their Premiership talent.

Newcastle are best odds of 21/20 with Coral to win on their travels this Friday and you have to think that could be good value. I think it’s going to be a positive season for United, and any odds above evens will be worth a look. The home side have shown positive signs in their preparations and Fulham are best odds of 29/10 with Bwin to cause an ‘upset’.

The draw is best price 13/5 with Sportingbet but that is an outcome we’ve only seen once in the last 15 meetings between these two clubs. In fact, the last seven meetings have been won by the home side, but all were Premier League meetings in very different circumstances.

Given the talent Newcastle have, you would expect them to win a majority of games this season. More important that that is their attitudes, which have been top notch during pre-season. The Magpies look dangerous and I think Fulham will still find ways to concede goals this season. I have to offer Newcastle United at 21/20 with Coral as my free betting tip for Friday.

Gayle can help Magpies fly

Dwight Gayle has long been touted as a big talent, and after proving himself in patches at Premier League level, I expect him to shine in the Championship. This game boasts (potentially) three of the league’s biggest goal threats, so don’t be surprised to see plenty of goal mouth action on Friday. I would expect both teams to threaten, so a correct score prediction of 2-1 is what I’ll plump for.

Gayle, McCormack and Mitrovic all have the potential to be the league’s leading scorer this season, and you might argue Perez may not be far behind them. I think Gayle will be so relishing the opportunity to start games and score goals at this level, that we’ll see an extremely motivated start to the season from the young man.

Newcastle are likely to create a wealth of good chances this season and I expect that to be on display this Friday. I think Dwight Gayle will be on the end of all things Newcastle this season, and he could bag himself a goal here at odds of 21/10 with Bet365.
