Luton vs Leeds Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
Leeds United were fantastic against Sheffield Wednesday and will look to the League Cup to build moment. Luton knocked out Villa in the last round and find themselves third in League Two. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.
Game: Luton Town vs Leeds United
Venue: Kennilworth Road
Kick off: 7.45pm, Tuesday 23rd August
Luton caused one of the shocks of the first round as they came from behind to beat Aston Villa 3-1. Leeds United made harder work of a less stiff test after they eventually overcame Fleetwood to qualify on penalties. Leeds didn’t level the scores until the 89th minute and immediately took the lead in extra time, before surrendering their lead.
Goals from Gray and McGeehan before an Okore goal sealed victory for Town who thoroughly outclassed their Championship opponents in the second half. The odds will be against them to repeat their cup heroics, but it very much depends on which Leeds side turns up.
Leeds continue to add depth and quality with the defensive additions of Bridcutt, Ayling and Jansson this week to add to the signature of Kyle Bartley and a host of talented attackers like Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe. On paper, United are a side who could challenge.
It take until the fifth game of the season for them to show their potential as they beat Wednesday 2-0 at Hillsborough this weekend but we saw a glimpse of what could be a very organised and clinical team. Such is the Leeds United way these days that could be very short lived and long forgotten come 9.30pmon Tuesday.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
Away side Leeds are best odds 7/5 with Stan James whilst the draw can be backed at 13/5 with Bet365. If you think Luton can spring another surprise, then they’re best odds of 11/5 over at Betfair.
Luton have managed just the one win in the last nine meetings of the two sides, producing an emphatic 5-1 score line a decade ago. Neither of those things count for much now with this being the first meeting between the sides in eight and a half years.
Luton can claim to come in to this game in better form and stability overall, whilst Leeds have the momentum. It will slowly come together for Monk and United, but with regular additions still being made it will take time. Town lost for the first time this season on the weekend though, so United will be hoping to build on their weekend win.
If they do so they’ll probably have to score more than once. Despite their clean sheet on the weekend Leeds had allowed eight goals in the four games prior and will have new pieces of their puzzle to bleed here with Jansson likely to play a part. Town have scored in each of their games this season producing 10 goals. It should have the same open, end to end cup tie feel about it that the Villa and Fleetwood games did, so I expect both teams to score here which you can back at 4/5 with Sky Bet.
Kemar Roofe has found himself slip to the bench recently so he should feature in this cup tie. Roofe bagged a goal during his last visit here and should feel very comfortable coming up against a League Two defence again. Back Kemar Roofe to score at best odds of 13/5 with Betfair.
I don’t see another Leeds clean sheet here, and you’d expect the Championship side to score. It could be open and entertaining and there’s no guarantee we won’t see another tough game for a Championship side. Extra time could be needed. Luton 2-2 Leeds is best odds of 13/1 with Bet365.
