Monday 15th February

Plumpton 3.00

This looks a nice chance for FIRST AVENUE to get back on the winning trail. He has slipped some 15lbs in the weights during the last year and is being given a real opening here in his favoured conditions. He loves the mud and is seen to his best effect in gruelling slogs, so that combined with his slipping mark makes this it the perfect time for us to back him. His runner up performance at Lingfield last time proved hw is on the right track and he's been eased another couple of pounds for this assignment. The 7/1 is more than attractive.

Stake: 1pt each way @ 7/1 (various) - Lost

Catterick 4.10

We backed ANOTHER HERO when he strolled to success a fortnight ago at Ludlow. That he won so comfortably that day despite jumping markedly left at all his fences said everything about his class. So it boosts confidence even more to see him coming to Catterick, which is a left handed circuit. The 5lbs rise looks lenient enough and he has more wins left in him. Was pretty surprised to see 3/1 available and I'd act quickly because I don't see it lasting.

Stake: 2pts win @ 3/1 (various) - Non Runner

Tuesday 16th February

Ayr 2.55

MYLITTLECRACKER represents the in-form Iain Jardine stable and he is a trainer to be taken very seriously these days. She won a bumper here in November and looked a really nice prospect that day before flopping to a degree on her debut over hurdles at Kelso. But on closer inspection, there was mitigating circumstances there after her jockey lost an iron and she was never travelling from a long way out. She should be taken to get back on track and resume her progress here.

Stake: 1pt each way @ 11/2 (SkyBet, BetBright) - Placed .38

Ayr 4.40

UBALTIQUE comes here looking to notch a double and has the services of Aidan Coleman - his only mount at the meeting. That is a tip in itself. He goes up 7lbs for an impressive win last time out and should still be capable of eeking out further improvement. Market fav Yes Tom is an 11-year-old having to saddle top weight and can't be fancied to go in again. Donald McCain's runner looks primed to strike.

Stake: 1pt win @ 3/1 (SkyBet) - Lost

Wednesday 17th February

Kempton 5.50

MUAITHER should be nicely sharpened up after a couple of previous trips to the track and the application of first time blinkers. Assuming they do the trick then he will be very tough to beat in this field and I'm surprised to see 6/1 available about the Gosden colt. Makes an each way bet feel like a free shot.

Stake: 1pt each way @ 6/1 (Bet365) - Lost

Kempton 6.20

ARCHIE STEVENS has been dropped to a very workable mark for this and gets an extra 3lbs off his back through handy claimer Philip Prince. He also drops in grade here and the last time he raced in a Class 5 contest, he ran out a winner. It's all adding up to a big run back in this company and if we can get a smart break and good position, we should be on to something.

Stake: 1pt win @ 4/1 (Bet365, William Hill) - Lost

Thursday 18th February

The Tower Tips

Fontwell 2.55

CLOUDY BEACH was having little more than a racecourse school at Sandown when making his chase debut in December. One thing's for sure, Venetia Williams will have hin far sharper for this test. He drops in both grade and trip here and the 5lbs claim of the impressive Charlie Deutsch is a key plus. I would have had him far nearer 4/1 in my book so the 7/1 makes it a no brainer that we must act.

Stake: 1pt each way @ 7/1 (Betfair Sportsbook) - Won +8.75

Chelmsford 6.40

We've been at this dance before with U S NAVY SEAL but it's about time the War Front colt started paying his way. He has undoubted potential in spades and should have bagged far more wins than the solitary one on his record. A very interesting step up to two miles here (which he's not obviously getting on pedigree) but we'll just have to hope this is no fact finding mission because he looks a really talented sort and once they find the key to his ability, he will take off. Things have been happening a bit too quickly for him in the past couple of races so this could well be the answer. The 7/1 is just too big.

Stake: 1pt each way @ 7/1 (Ladbrokes) - Lost

Chelmsford 7.10

Really like the chances of MY TARGET hitting the proverbial target here. The Cape Cross gelding couldn't land a second successive win last time out when he endured a horror trip through the race and nothing went right at Wolverhampton. This should be a different story with the plum draw in stall 1 and Adam Kirby will look to get his mount straight out the gate and to the head of proceedings. If all goes to plan, he should prove tough to peg back and 6/1 is plenty big enough.

Stake: 1pt each way @ 6/1 (William Hill) - Lost

Friday 19th February

Sandown 2.10

You don't have to cast your mind back far to the glory days for THE CLOCK LEARY. At Ascot last year he pounded Cocktails At Dawn by 11 lengths - form that barely sounds believable these days. Still, there's no doubt a good horse remains within him and so often this season he has travelled well for a long way in his races before flattening out. So to see him dropping down to 1m 7f is of MAJOR interest here. Venetia Williams has her string in fine form and Aidan Coleman is sure to get a fine tune out of him off a mark of 120. The price of 10/1 is just laughable in my eyes.

Stake: 1pt each way @ 10/1 (William Hill) - Lost

Sandown 4.20

Everything points towards a huge run here for LOOSE CHIPS. He's dropping big time in grade and is a course and distance winner for Charlie Longsdon who knows how to get it done at this venue. He runs off a mark of 132 which is plenty high enough given a couple of ropey efforts but coming down into this grade he hasNgot to make that class tell and I will be astonished if he is out of the money. It would surely take a fall to prevent him being out of the picture.

Stake: 1pt each way @ 7/1 (various) - Placed .75

Saturday 20th February

The Tower Tips

Three selections for a good looking Saturday.

Lingfield 2.35

Big run on the cards for COME ON DAVE. He has changed stable since his last run (a two length defeat at the hands of Bosham) and that form was given a boost when the latter went on to complete a hat trick in a higher grade. Adam Kirby will not be hanging around up front and off a mark of 83 he has been given every chance to return to winning ways.

Stake: 1pt each way @ 11/2 (Betfred) - Placed +.38

Haydock 2.40

It's almost obligatory to include a Kerry Lee runner on a Saturday. She has become this year's Paul Nicholls with a string of big victories and I fancy her to bag another here in the Grand National Trial. BISHOPS ROAD literally could be anything and the fact he is open to so much improvement makes him of so much interest. He won by almost 20 lengths at Sandown last time out and that was on very testing ground, so we know he handles a lot of cut. The fact he's in a stable that's flying and has the champ elect in the plate merely serves to increase confidence.

Stake: 1pt each way @ 8/1 (various) - Won +10

Ascot 3.35

TRIOLO D'ALENE has always been a classy horse but much of his potential has been cruelly blunted by injury and breathing problems. Despite that, he has won a Topham and a Hennessy Gold Cup and has all the ability in the world if getting into a rhythm like he did on his return at Kempton. He looked phenomenal that day and surprised even Nicky Henderson when strolling home by half the track. He can go in again here against opposition who all arrive with questions to answer. Triolo has only been raised 5lbs for that romp last time and if he's in the same mood here then he'll be hard to stop.

Stake: 1pt each way @ 7/1 (Coral, BoyleSports) - Lost

Sunday 30th February

Naas 2.30

DON'T TOUCH IT has some really exciting form in the book so far and the standout piece was his second behind A Toi Phil. The latter is very well regarded and has subsequently won a Grade 2 contest, highlighting how strong that form is. Jessica Harrington looks to have a real star on her hands in the shape of DON'T TOUCH IT and although the 6-year-old is short enough at 6/4, I reckon he will prove a class above these and recommend a strong two point bet.

Stake: 2pt win @ 6/4 (Paddy Power) - Lost

Ffos Las 3.45

COPPER BIRCH looks primed for a big crack at this race. He's been given a nice three month rest since we last saw him and brings decent course form to the table. His last outing, over 3m 4f at Haydock, saw him travel powerfully into the race as they approached the business end before his stamina failed to last out. So it's very eyecatching to see him drop down to 2m 7f here and I expect to see him on the premises.

Stake: 1pt each way @ 8/1 (BetVictor, Paddy Power) - Lost
