Brighton vs Chelsea Predictions, Betting Tips & Preview
The Brighton fans will no doubt create another special atmosphere for the visit of Chelsea, but on the field the Seagulls have struggled to leave their mark on top sides this season. Chelsea will be keen to distance themselves from a run of five draws in seven games.
Game: Brighton vs Chelsea
Venue: AmEx Stadium
Kick-off: Saturday, 20th January, 12:30pm
Brighton are making a good fist at survival in their first season in the Premier League. The Seagulls are currently three points and considerable goal difference clear of the drop zone, and Chris Hughton’s men have picked up some valuable points at home lately. They’re unbeaten in four games in all competitions and have taken something from nine of their 11 games.
But their record against sides in the top four leaves a little bit to be desired. Manchester City (2-0), Liverpool (5-1), Manchester United (1-0), Arsenal (2-0), Tottenham (2-0) and visitors Chelsea (2-0) have all beaten Brighton this season. It’s no discredit to the newly promoted side, but it could be a sign of things to come here.
Chelsea have the opportunity to snap a run of four consecutive draws against Norwich midweek but a win here is of equal importance as their momentum threatens to stall. Despite that overall run, Chelsea’s away form has seen them win at five of the seven bottom half sides they’ve visited.
Brighton are big underdogs at a price of 7/1 with Betfred whilst the draw, a common occurrence in Chelsea games of late, is 3/1 with Sky Bet. Chelsea are best odds 1/2 with Coral to pick up all three points at the AMEX.
No one bar Liverpool have had their way with Brighton. Although they haven’t had the quality to trouble the goal of the top six very often, or pick up a single point, they have at least been competitive. Chelsea’s speight of draws has at least contributed to their run of clean sheets and they may need to keep things tight in a close game here.
Back our Free Betting Tip: Chelsea: win to nil at 11/10 with Bet365
Whilst Brighton have failed to score in their meetings with the current top six so far, only Liverpool have beaten them by more than two goals. Even Chelsea -1AH is priced near evens money here which just reflects how hard Brighton can be to break down at times. Albion should keep this game competitive for the most part.
Back our Score Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 at 9/2 with Betfred
Chelsea’s struggles in front of goal continue as they couldn’t even threaten a 10 man Leicester side at Stamford Bridge. Alvaro Morata’s form has seen him score once in eight league games, although that goal did come against Brighton. Willian stole the show against Stoke and with a big cup tie against Arsenal to come, Eden Hazard may just get another rest here.
Back our Scorer Prediction: Willian at 11/4 with Betfair
