Brighton vs Southampton Predictions, Betting Tips & Preview

Match Preview

Brighton will be the happier of these two sides with their season so far. The Seagulls are adjusting well to life in the top flight, whilst Southampton remain plagued by inconsistency. The Saints drew 0-0 when visiting promoted side Huddersfield.

Game: Brighton vs Southampton

Venue: AMEX Stadium

Kick-off: Sunday 29th October, 1.30PM

With 11 points after nine games, Brighton are adjusting to life in the Premier League just fine. Their last outing, a 3-0 win away to West Ham, must have provided a rather big confidence boost for the Seagulls. The win was Brighton’s third in their last six Premier League fixtures, with two draw meaning they’ve gone unbeaten in more than half of their games.

The feeling is that Southampton have not been good enough. They’ve picked up points in six of their nine Premier League games, but a number of disappointing draws coupled with a League Cup exit at the hands of a Championship side means frustrations are present, but back to back results could have the Saints on the up.

Reasons for Betting Tips

Brighton are outsiders at 23/10 with Bet365 despite being the hosts here. The stuttering Saints can be backed at 6/4 with Betfair, whilst the draw is available at best odds of 9/4 through Betfred.

Southampton have been inconsistent on their travels. Although they’ve won seven away games since the start of last season, they’ve lost 10 of the remaining 14 games. It’s often been one thing or the other, and their latest 0-0 draw at Huddersfield wasn’t encouraging. The Saints dominated but didn’t convert.

And that type of inconsistency could see them struggle against a well drilled Brighton side here. Brighton have conceded twice in their last three home games and even Man City struggled to get behind them. Their 3-0 win at the Hammers was their fourth clean sheet since late August.

Southampton have reason to feel better about themselves after a win over West Brom, although their 2-2 draw with Newcastle was bitter sweet. The Saints have managed three games unbeaten just once in 2017, and it would be typical of their season so far to take a step backwards here.

Back our Free Betting Tip: Brighton to win at 23/10 with Bet365

The Saints have failed to score in nine of their last 22 Premier League away games but Brighton are particularly stubborn at the back. Three of Brighton’s four wins have come with a clean sheet this season, and two of those were 1-0 wins at home. If the Seagulls can take all three points here, they’ll need some help from the rearguard.

Back our Score Prediction: Brighton 1-0 at 15/2 with Bet365

Glenn Murray reminded us he’s a threat at any level last time out. As long as the service is there, Murray will score goals. He scored two against West Ham after breaking into the starting line-up and will surely keep his place here.
