Whilst we’ve seen some surprises in this years competition, several of the early tournament favourites made it to the knockout stages, including Ghana and Egypt who have now progressed to the semi-finals. Egypt have the easier draw with Burkina Faso, but you take nothing for granted in this tournament.
Burkina Faso have reached this stage of the competition by going unbeaten so far and putting in good performances against an Aubameyang led Gabon side and Tunisia in the last knockout round. You may argue that this is their first real test of the tournament, though.
Egypt have not yet conceded a goal in this year's tournament and look extremely well organised at the back. They could be better placed here, as not only do they look to have more quality, but they’ve come through tougher tests so far, beating Ghana and Morocco 1-0.
Egypt are the favourites for the fourth time in this tournament, but for the fourth time you will still get above evens on them, with best odds 23/20 with Bet Victor. The draw is available at 2/1 at the same outlet and you can back Burkina Faso at odds of 3/1 with Bet365.
Egypt’s games against Ghana and Morocco were expected to be huge tests and they passed them with flying colors. They were even an underdog against Ghana, but put in a dogged and well organised performance that we’ve come accustomed to this tournament. They were 1-0 victors in both games.
Faso have only allowed two goals in four games, but strength of schedule leaves me believing this game will not be quite as tough as the odds suggest for Egypt. Faso have benefited from two own goals and a penalty so far in the competition, and they haven’t faced a side this well drilled. Back Egypt at odds of 23/20 with Bet Victor.
That’s not to say it’ll be easy, and another 1-0 could be on the cards. It will definitely be a lower scoring game and it could be cagey in stages, but when you look at the business ends of the pitch, you have to think Egypt have a clear advantage. Back Egypt to win 1-0 at odds of 19/4 also with Bet Victor.
No player has scored more than once for Egypt yet and with their games playing out so tight, picking a goal scorer is a tough task. In the end it seems safest to pick the player that we know has the most ability if the scores are 0-0 and Egypt are in need of a goal late on. Back Mohammed Salah to score his second of the tournament at 13/8 with Bet365.
