Cardiff City vs Leeds United Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Leeds United were given a lift when winning only their second game of the season on Tuesday. That’s still one more game than Cardiff, who have only toppled lowly Blackburn so far. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.

Game: Cardiff City vs Leeds United
Venue: Cardiff City Stadium
Kick off: Saturday 17th September, 12.30PM

Leeds United are starting to dominate possession under Gary Monk. Their shortfall has been taking chances, as they managed just one effort on target in the first half of Tuesday’s game. The second half was much more clinical with goals from Kyle Bartley and Chris Woods giving Leeds a deserved three points. Despite criticism, it’s now three wins in five games for Leeds.

Cardiff’s problem were perhaps summed up by Blackburn’s Duffy scoring two awful own goals out of nothing inside the first 20 minutes and then getting himself sent off. Despite that, Cardiff didn’t look like further breaking down the 10 men of Rovers, losing the remaining 70 minutes 1-0.

Their weekend fightback against Norwich, before losing 3-2, suggested they had something in them but Cardiff made it three losses in three when they absolutely rolled over at Preston midweek, losing 3-0. It could and should have been more.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Cardiff are 6/5 favourites with Paddy Power but that continues to drift. There’s no justification for backing this side as a favourite. The draw is best odds 21/10 with Ladbrokes whilst Leeds can be backed at 5/2 with Stan James.

The best thing about Leeds’ midweek performance was the partnership of Kyle Bartley and Pontus Jansson. There is no doubting that Leeds, finally, have found a pairing that can defend in this division. Their commitment was summed up when Kyle Bartley headed home the late winner for Leeds. Jansson then played the role of man mountain for the near 10 minutes of injury time that Leeds had to hold on through.

Cardiff’s problems are all too similar to Leeds. They haven’t quite taken their chances and just when you think they’re getting somewhere, they’ll do something to take a step backwards. The mistakes they’ve been making it defence aren’t good enough for this level. My concern for Cardiff is that they’re also very different to Leeds in that it’s all about how and when the Whites gel. I can’t see the Bluebirds finishing too far off of relegation with their lack of quality though, unless Rickie Lambert can score a good amount of goals.

Leeds United: Draw No Bet at best odds 6/4 with Paddy Power is our free betting tip here. The Whites have won away from home three times this season (twice in the cup) and have kept their only two clean sheets on the road. They’ll be confident now and I think with Jansson and Bartley at the back, Leeds can keep it tight against a blunt Cardiff attack.

Cardiff have failed to score a goal (of their own) in six of eight games already this season. League One Bristol Rovers beat them 1-0, whilst as we said their only triump came via two own goals. Leeds won by this same score line at Sheffield Wednesday, another game where they defended well and dominated the ball. Back Leeds United to win 2-0 at odds of 9/1 with Ladbrokes.

One of Leeds’ best attacking influences on Tuesday was Hadi Sacko. The winger tormented Blackburn in the second half and had a role in both goals. Sacko has now twice stood out for United and has managed a goal and two assists for United.Back Sacko to score here at odds of 11/2 with Bet365.
