Match Preview

Arsenal avoided a midweek embarrassment in the Europa League as they came from behind to beat FC Koln, whilst Chelsea wrapped up a straight-forward 6-0 win over Qarabag a full 48 hours prior.

Game: Chelsea vs Arsenal

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Kick-off: Sunday 17th September, 1.30PM

Chelsea have been heavily criticised for their transfer activity over the summer and many have moved to write off the defending champions. The departure of Costa is a loss but one that was always on the cards, and the addition of Alvaro Morata looks a very good one.

Chelsea have quickly squashed absurd and premature rumours of their demise with four wins in a row, beating Tottenham and Everton in Premier League action in that time. Prior to that the Gunners had beaten them via the lottery of penalties, and any top flight side may have struggled to overcome an organised Burnley side with a numerical disadvantage.

Arsenal made the best possible start to the season by lifting the Community Shield, the latest in a long line of Wembley successes for Wenger, but since last season's problems have resurfaced. Arsenal beaten Leicester 4-3 at home and avoided their near annual first game of the season home embarassment, but since have lost both away games.

Reasons for Betting Tips

Chelsea are currently drifting but remain 4/5 favorites with Betfred. The draw, the outcome when the sides met at Wembley, is priced at 3/1 with Bet Victor whilst Arsenal are best odds 7/2 with Bet365.

Chelsea come into this game with the advantage of having a full two days extra to rest and prepare. The Blues also faced a much easier fixture in Qarabag, whilst Arsenal players were perhaps affected and made a slow start against FC Koln. The Gunners did go on to win 3-1, but not before a tough game in a testing atmosphere.

Arsenal failed to win as many as 11 away games last season, losing seven of them. That’s far from an awful record but it’s much, much less than a club like Arsenal should be demanding and expecting of their players. Arsenal managed just one single point from their away games against Everton, City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Manchester United.

Chelsea have won seven of their last eight home games against Arsenal and could temporarily move to the top of the table ahead of United’s 4PM kick-off. Conte’s men will be keen to demonstrate that they are still very much a title contender this season.

Back our Free Betting Tip: Chelsea to win at odds of 4/5 with Betfred

Six of Chelsea’s seven wins against their London rivals have been by two clear goals or better, with Arsenal failing to score in over half of those games. The Gunners have looked dangerous at home but have indeed failed to score in both of their away games, so goals could be an issue again here.

Back our Score Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 at best odds of 9/1 with Paddy Power

Alvaro Morata is the man who will lead the line for Chelsea on Sunday and the Spaniard tasked with replacing the goals of Diego Costa, who noticed 20 league goals in 35 games last season, has already managed three in his first four Premier League games.

Back our Scorer Prediction: Back Alvaro Morata to score at 1/1 with Bet365
