Chelsea vs Hull Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Things were going so swimmingly for Chelsea, until a 2-0 defeat at Spurs and the off-field goings on with Diego Costa. They’ll need to stick together against a Hull side who already seem to be improving under Marco Silva. Below are our match predictions, betting tips and preview.

Game: Chelsea vs Hull

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Kick-off: Sunday 22nd January, 4.30PM

Chelsea responded pretty much as expected in the wake of their 2-0 defeat to Spurs. Their near rivals closed the gap on them, although the Blues still have a seven point advantage, and has won two games in all competitions since.

It remains to be seen whether or not Diego Costa plays a part here, but Chelsea have fared very well without him. That doesn’t mean to say they won’t look forward to his return, and sources close to Costa suggested early on that a move to China was unlikely.

All the talk at Hull has been about the positive performances under Marco Silva so far. Despite a 2-0 first leg defeat at Old Trafford, a seriously injury hit Hull side competed well and will test United in the return. The Tigers can take confidence from being unbeaten in three at home, including winning the last two.

Reasons for Betting Tips

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Chelsea are 1/5 favourites with Sky Bet, which does not seem value given Hull’s pending change in fortunes. The draw is available at 5/1 with Paddy Power whilst the visitors can be backed at a whopping 19/1 with Bet Victor.

Whilst it’s hard to see any value in Chelsea’s price, it’s even harder to bet against it. The Costa incident hasn’t derailed them, neither has their loss at Spurs. They’re in fine form and at home they’ve been untouchable. They’ve won 11 of 12, slipping up only against a very in-form Liverpool side early on.

Hull are still having problem after problem on the injury front. Despite losing three more bodies against United though, they managed to beat Bournemouth 3-1 at home. One or two may return here, but it’s nine defeats in 10 on the road and they rarely offer prolonged resistance. Back Chelsea to lead at half time and full time at 7/10 with Coral.

A win at Championship strugglers Bristol City aside, the best Hull have managed on the road has been 1-0 defeats at West Ham, Boro and Watford – three sides not known for scoring goals and not in the best of form. They’ve been hit for three or more on five occasions. Back Chelsea to win 3-0 at odds of 13/2 with Bet Victor.

At the time of writing it remains to be seen if Diego Costa is set to return, but in his absence Pedro has stepped up with three goals in two games, and he may be needed as the big man could start on the bench even if he does return. Back Pedro to net again at 17/11 with 888Sport.
