Chelsea vs Leicester Predictions, Betting Tips & Preview

Match Preview

Less than three days removed from their league cup semi-final clash with Arsenal, Chelsea will need to find a way to manage their minutes to cope with the visit of Leicester City. City will need to improve on a poor record against the blues.

Game: Chelsea vs Leicester

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Kick-off: Saturday, 13th January, 3.00pm

Chelsea have won 12 of the last 14 meetings with Leicester City, only failing to beat them during Leicester’s title-winning season. The pair have already met once this season when Chelsea ran out 2-1 winners at the King Power Stadium.

Only Atletico Madrid have stopped Chelsea winning at home during their last nine games, although at the time of writing we await their League Cup tie with Arsenal. Chelsea will need to think carefully about the side they play in each game and how they manage the current fixture build-up, but Leicester have been poor over the past six games.

The Foxes host an FA Cup replay against Fleetwood on Tuesday which is the first of vital back to back home games. Until recently, City had only been beaten by teams inside the top five, but the increasing 11 point gap means their best chance of success this season will be the FA Cup.

Reasons for Betting Tips

Chelsea are slim pickings at best odds of 5/18 with Unibet, and the draw is available at 17/4 through Sky Bet. Leicester will no doubt be the fresher side and they’re priced at a whopping 11/1 with Paddy Power.

Whilst Leicester will be the fresher squad overall here, they are in a poor run of form and lack the level of depth that Chelsea poses. With a fifth-place finish slipping away from the Foxes, their only chance at success this season is arguably the FA Cup. You’d think they’d manage both games after playing a weakened side at Fleetwood, but they could be without the services of Jamie Vardy. Leicester have scored with regularity on their travels though, whilst Chelsea are finding their feet at the back. Vardy’s fitness could sway this one, but either way Leicester will need to put up a strong rearguard action.

Chelsea have been absolutely dominant over Leicester in recent years, but the Foxes have kept four of six meetings as close as a single goal or less, whilst also beating Conte’s men on one occasion. Things have changed a lot since then though and Chelsea are in a good run of form. City have been beaten by two clear goals or more on just occasions across their last 35 games in all competitions.

Back our Score Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 at 15/2 with Betfred

Jamie Vardy may be an absence here but that remains to be seen, so hanging your hat on him would be deemed a risk. Mahrez is the next biggest threat in the Leicester ranks, although Chelsea will no doubt earmark keeping him quiet and Shinji Okazaki has been industrious whilst netting six goals. Leicester will need his work rate up top if they’re to trouble Leicester with or without Vardy. Chelsea have had seven different scorers produce their last 10 home goals so it’s harder to pinpoint a likely scorer for the hosts.

Back our Scorer Prediction: Shinji Okazaki at 21/4 with Bet365
