Derby County vs Bristol City Predictions, Betting Tips & Preview
Bristol City’s performances against the Manchester clubs have earned them plenty of plaudits in recent weeks, but the build-up to the cup games seems to have harmed their league form. Derby are absolutely flying and will fancy their chances here.
Game: Derby County vs Bristol City
Venue: iPro Stadium
Kick-off: Friday, 19th January, 7.45pm
Bristol City were beaten 1-0 at home to Norwich last weekend. The defeat was their fifth straight defeat, and their sixth failure in seven games since beating Manchester United. It’s been a tough fixture list for City who have had to deal with top six sides Wolves and Villa whilst also playing their fifth and sixth game of the season against Premier League opposition.
City have allowed 13 goals with little response in that time and their last two away games prior to Manchester City saw them lose 5-0 and 3-0. Their effort against Manchester City was by far their best since the United victory, and there is clear signs the fixture build up against the testing opposition is harming their league form.
It doesn’t get any easier as they visit a Derby side who could temporarily pull five points clear of third-placed Cardiff with a win here, and a whopping eight points clear of not so long ago second-placed Bristol City.
Derby County are favourites to win for the seventh time in nine games at odds of 11/10 with Betfred. The draw, an outcome County has alternated with wins over the last five, is 12/5 with William Hill. Bristol City are 13/5 with Bet365.
A month or so ago you’d say there has to be value on Bristol City. Their victory at then high flying Sheffield United was the latest in a string of fine away performances that cemented their promotion credentials. They’ve gone on to lose five in a row and have struggled with a busy fixture list against tough opposition. Man City await four days after this game and that could affect City again here.
Back our Free Betting Tip: Derby County at 11/10 with Betfred
CIty have only lost twice away from home, and they’ve only failed to score three times. Derby’s home wins have a tendency to come on the back of a clean sheet and strong defensive performances, but Bristol City are usually relentless in their efforts and rarely go away. They should be keen to improve on their performance at Villa park and could threaten Derby here, but the hosts have the momentum.
Back our Score Prediction: Derby 2-1 at 17/2 with Betfair
Bobby Reid is the standout performer in this squad and the likely Premier League bound attacker has been Bristol City’s only goalscorer in this run of lost games. However, the fixtures are bound to take a toll, and Derby’s in-form quarter of Nugent, Vydra, Weimann and Winnall are much the fresher. Matej Vydra has nine of his 15 goals at home this season and is often on penalty and free kick duty.
Back our Scorer Prediction: Matej Vydra at 37/19 with Bet365
