Ipswich Town vs Norwich City Predictions, Betting Tips & Preview
Before the Premier League action kicks off on Sunday, there’s the small matter of an East-Anglian derby as Ipswich host Norwich. Ever since Norwich marked their return to this level with a 5-1 away win to their near rivals, it’s the Canaries who have gone unbeaten in eight.
Game: Ipswich Town vs Norwich City
Venue: Portman Road
Kick-off: Sunday 22nd October, 1.00PM
The tractor boys started the season looking like one of many improved sides who could contend at the top end of the table, but the wheels have fallen off a little bit as Town have lost six of their last eight. A majority of those losses did come on the road though, with McCarthy’s men saving their best performances for at home.
Norwich themselves haven’t lost in that same eight-game run after an inconsistent start, but a slow start on the road has paved way for four consecutive wins at Sheffield United, Brentford, Middlesbrough and Reading. That’s an extremely tough run of games to win, and City are perfectly placed to take advantage of their neighbours stuttering form.
Ipswich Town will look to get back on track at best odds of 12/5 with Betfair, whilst the draw is available at 13/5 through the same bookmaker. Norwich, despite being on their travels, are favourites to win at 23/20 with Betfred.
It’s hard to make too strong a case for Ipswich here. As much as form goes out of the window in these types of games, Norwich are aiming to win five consecutive away games having already beaten four much stronger opposition. Ipswich are starting to lose games frequently after their quick start, allowing nine goals in their last four games.
Norwich have been watertight defensively and they’ve taken their chances when they’ve come their way. Betting on this game becomes a little bit tougher when you consider the fact Norwich are a favorite, and have often been an underdog in recent trips here, but the Canaries do seem to be dealing very well with increasing expectations.
Back our Free Betting Tip: Norwich to win at 23/20 with Betfred
This can be a cagey fixture and we’ve seen the last three meetings on this ground see two or fewer goals, and all have been decided by a goal or less. Neither side will want to set themselves up to fail with their performance in the first 30 minutes of this game, and that could just set the tone for a tight and cagey affair. Norwich recently won 1-0 at both Boro and Sheffield United.
Back our Score Prediction: Norwich to win 1-0 at 9/1 with Betfair
Nelson Oliveira has grabbed his chance as a starter and scored five goals so far this season, but he’s saved his best for home and hasn’t scored in this winning away run. Despite that, he is City’s top scorer, and in a game of what could be few chances, Norwich’s Portuguese marksman seems the most likely to take on.
Back our Scorer Prediction: Back Nelson Oliveira to score at 15/8 with Betfred
