Leeds United vs Aston Villa Predictions, Betting Tips & Preview

Match Preview

Leeds United have found their feet again after two respectable wins in their last three games. Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa side have won four of five and have beaten some strong opposition. This is a big game under lights and both sides will want to prioritise keeping things tight at the back, but the breakthrough should come eventually.

Game: Leeds United vs Aston Villa

Venue: Elland Road Stadium

Kick-off: Friday, 1st December, 7.45PM

Given their extremely poor away record, Aston Villa drew far too many games at home last season. The Villains have only drawn four of 19 so far this season, and a couple of those can be seen as a pleasing point against a decent side. Leeds United had forgotten what a clean sheet had felt like before their 2-0 win over Barnsley, although had down enough to have beaten Boro’ 2-0 the weekend prior. The midweek thrashing against Wolves is something a lot of teams could suffer this season, but Leeds were on top at 1-2 until Ronaldo Viera saw red.

It’s been a positive week for both sides after Aston Villa continue their strong form, beating both Sunderland at Ipswich at home. It was also the fifth time in seven games that they’d netted two goals, and the absence of Jonathan Kodjia has gone unnoticed thanks to the form of Albert Adomah. Leeds have the attacking midfield trio of Samuel Saiz, Pablo Hernandez and Ezgjan Alioski to thank for their performances over the last week or so.

Reasons for Betting Tips

Leeds United can be backed at best odds of 15/8 with Paddy Power, and the draw at 9/4 through Bet365. Ladbrokes are making Middlesbrough favorites at odds of 17/11.

Leeds were thoroughly the better side against Boro and Burnley. They outplayed Wolves for the first 10 minutes of the second half and looked like they could be back in the game after Ezgjan Alioski netted, but Viera’s red gave a dangerous Wolves side the space they needed to punish Leeds.

Things won’t be so open here. Villa have allowed four goals in six games, whilst United had given away just four in their first nine games this season and are showing signs they may be starting to tighten up again. This is a tough game for both sides, and both will have spells in the game forcing the issue, but it could be hard to make an early breakthrough in such a big game.

It took supreme quality from Leeds to find two goals against Boro and Barnsley as both games presented few chances. Leeds have looked solid in their past two weekend games, and Aston Villa have certainly figured out the recipe for a clean sheet. More often than not you’d think these two sides have the quality to force a goal, but chances could be in short supply at times.

Back our Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw at 5/1 with Betfred

Samuel Saiz, Pablo Hernandez and Ezgjan Alioski have all been fantastic home and away and have changed Leeds’ fortunes in part to the highest pressing game they’ve been playing. This was in full effect at Barnsley, perhaps not coincidently with the return of sweeper keeper Felix Wiedwald. Every team that has faced Leeds at their best has struggled to deal with the attacking overload driven by Samuel Saiz.

Back our Scorer Prediction: Samuel Saiz at 14/5 with Bet365
