Leeds united vs Huddersfield town Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
Two Yorkshire rivals that are arguably heading in two very different directions will meet at Elland Road on Saturday. Huddersfield are no doubt on the up, but there’s still uncertainty about how this season will pan out for Leeds. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.
Game: Leeds vs Huddersfield
Venue: Elland Road
Kick off: Saturday 10th September, 3pm
Leeds have the opportunity to be much more stable under Gary Monk and they look like they have the quality to comfortably being a top 10 side. That has been the case before though, and the Whites have often finished in bottom quarter of the table. The appointment for a high profile manager like Monk and the additions made have given fresh hope.
Hope can die quickly these days at Elland Road. The presence of Massimo Cellino is always a concern as will be United’s failure to sign another striker before the window closed. Leeds fans have been carrying out peaceful protests this week as buyers for the club begin to circle as the chances of Cellino selling up edge closer to reality.
A new and enthusiastic owner that backs a talented manager with his own unique style is quite a thing to behold when it all goes to plan – just ask Huddersfield. Oddly tipped for relegation by many, the Terriers are in fantastic form under Wagner and it seems no fluke. They were 4-1 winners last time they visited Elland Road, but this one should be much closer.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
Leeds United are best odds of 9/5 with Coral in what is a closely priced game. The draw is available at 23/10 with Bet Victor although isn’t a common outcome when these sides meet and Huddersfield to win can be backed at 13/8 with Betway.
Last seasons 4-1 thrashing of Leeds was revenge for what was turning in to absolute dominance in this fixture. Leeds had won four straight after a 3-0 away win earlier in the season. It was a run that saw the Whites net 14 times in a row that included a 5-1 home win and bucked trends, with the home side winning only three times in 11 meetings.
Huddersfield’s one away win so far this season saw them win at St James Park. They followed that up with a hard earned point at Villa, scoring the all important goal in the final seven minutes of the game on both occasions. That sums up their character at present as did a 90th minute winner against 4th placed Barnsley.
There’s still instability at Leeds and Monk – although I believe he will lead this group of players to a top 10 finish – has a lot to work on in terms of gelling so many new players still. Huddersfield are in full flow and playing very well, and they’ll be buzzing for such a big game. Huddersfield: Draw No Bet is our free betting tip here at odds of 10/11 with William Hill.
You shouldn’t underestimate the quality Leeds do have. They were fantastic against Sheffield Wednesday and made a come back against Fulham here. Overall it hasn’t been quite good enough, but sooner or later these talented players will gel. Taking chances has been the big problem, which is why I would rather look to Huddersfield here. The visitors to win 2-1 is available at odds of 9/1 with Paddy Power.
For the above reasons I think it’s best we look to the Terriers for our any time goal scorer prediction also. Everyone is playing well and Huddersfield are scoring from all over the pitch at the moment. Despite the reputation of Wells, EliasKachunga looks to be Huddersfield’s most dangerous player to me at the moment. He is priced at 13/5 with Stan James.
