Leeds United vs Preston North End Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
Leeds United opened their Championship account with a win on Sunday, as they ran out 3-2 victors away to Bolton. Simon Grayson, former Leeds boss and now Preston’s manager, would have been more than happy with his teams 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Deepdale.
Game: Leeds United vs Preston North End
Venue: Elland Road
Kick-off: Saturday, 12th August, 3pm
Thomas Christensens Leeds United are a working progress, but the attacking intent and quality was there for everyone to see on Sunday. Despite entering the game shorthanded at the back, and then losing Gaetano Berardi and Matthew Pennington, the Whites scored three finely worked goals and perhaps should have had more. Only a moment of inexperience from makeshift defender Shaughnessy kept the game close.
Preston had to grind out their win a little bit more, although they were rarely threatened by a Sheffield Wednesday side usually so devastating on their travels. The Owls failed to trouble the Preston goal often enough throughout the 90 minutes. Daniel Johnsons 90th minute penalty was enough to hand Preston a well deserved three points on opening day.
Preston will be keen to improve on dire away form that saw them fail to win in their last 10 away outings of the season, and beat only relegation threatened sides in Burton, City and Rotherham from early November onwards. Leeds United were solid at home all season despite their late wobble. Preston were beaten 3-0 here on a ground where United won 44 points.
Preston do have the feel of an improved side about them this season despite it being early going, but then again so do Leeds. Andrea Radrizzani has spent big not just on the playing squad, but the stadium and infrastructure, and there’s likely to be a special atmosphere as Leeds play inside their own Elland Road for the first time in over a decade. Preston will be tasked with the role of party poopers, but with all due respect to North End, Leeds need to be winning games against teams likely to miss out on the playoffs if they’re to succeed, even at this stage of the season.

The first away game of the season for Preston is always going to be a tough ask after last year. They’ll likely be refreshed, enthused and confident after last weekend’s win, but they still have some defensive issues to sort out on the road. They conceded a tremendous amount of goals away from home towards the end of the season, and this United side have the deadliest scorer in the division and combined, their new talent played a part in no fewer than 80 goals last season. You could make a case for another wild scoreline as Leeds enter this one defensively short handed.
Back our Score Prediction: 3-1 Leeds win at odds of 17/1 with Bet365
Chris Wood scored one and perhaps should have had another, although he did play a starring role in Kalvin Phillip’s goals. Wood is likely to find a bit more time and space on the Elland Road pitch and with better conditions expected, the striker is likely to feature in the game more.
