Leeds United vs Sheffield United Predictions, Betting Tips & Preview
One of the biggest games of the Championship season so far will take place under the lights at Elland Road on Friday night, as high flying Sheffield United visit their neighbours Leeds United.
Game: Leeds United vs Sheffield United
Venue: Elland Road
Kick-off: Friday 27th October, 7.45PM
The Blades have been in fantastic form ever since their return to the second tier of English football, arguably presenting themselves as a dark horse for automatic promotion. Despite a recent blip in some tough fixtures, there’s no doubt Leeds United should be right in the automatic mix also, with nothing less than a playoff spot the target for Christensens men.
Big wins against the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Wolves and Reading have confirmed that Sheffield United have the ability to be a contender, and the Blades have made the most of their home fixtures so far. Three of their four losses have come on the road so far though, and Elland Road is no easy place to travel.
Leeds United have shown the ability to go on a run at the right time already this season and that’ll be vital come April if United can keep in touch. Despite losing four of five, United remain firmly in the playoffs and the adjustments made on the back of those games saw them tear unbeaten Bristol City apart at Ashton Gate, winning 3-0.
Leeds United are favourites at best odds 13/10 with Betfred and the draw can be backed at 23/10 with Unibet. Sheffield United, who will go top with a win, are 11/5 with Betfair Exchange.
You can understand why Leeds United are favorites because on their day they look as good as every team in this league. It’ll be a huge test for both of these sides in different ways, but form so far this season alone is enough to argue that Sheffield United are good value. The Blades have won eight games already this season and seem to have a better chance of making it nine here than the odds suggest.
But at the same time it does feel unlikely Leeds United and their meticulous head coach will allow themselves to undo their work at Bristol City and lose a second straight home game. Sheffield United will be coming to play football, but in such a likely blood and thunder affair, they’ll be aware that Leeds have struggled against physicality at times.
There’s a lot of elements to this game that make it a struggle to predict where the points will go, but United have been good defensively and Leeds have been even better. Five of six meetings have seen two or fewer goals, and Friday nights game might only need one brilliant moment to settle it.
Back our Free Betting Tip: Under 2.5 Goals at 4/5 with Betfred
The away side has only won this fixture once in 10 meetings, and it’s not likely Sheffield United repeat their 4-0 victory of over a decade ago. Leeds failing to score in back to back home games feels unlikely, but equally you can’t imagine Sheffield United failing to turn up for such a big game. We can’t split these two.
Back our Score Prediction: Draw 1-1 at 5/1 with Ladbrokes
It could take a moment of magic to make the breakthrough here, and Leeds’ little Spanish magician has eight goals from midfield so far this season. Samuel Saiz was rested midweek and Leeds often look somewhat dependant on his uncanny ability to find space in the final third.
Back our Scorer Prediction: Samuel Saiz to score at 23/10 with Betfair
