Leicester City vs Liverpool Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Match Preview

Many Premier League teams will make their League Cup bow this midweek, with many of them being drawn together. One such comes as Leicester prepare to host Liverpool live on Sky this Tuesday.

Game: Leicester City vs Liverpool

Venue: King Power Stadium

Kick-off: Tuesday 19th September, 7.45PM

Leicester and Liverpool have produced some thoroughly entertaining games in the past few seasons with perhaps Jamie Vardy’s outrageous half volley goal that helped Leicester City towards that infamous Premier League title being one of the first moments that comes to mind.

This will be the seventh meeting between the two sides since Leicester made a return to the Premier League, but the first cup meeting since 1987 when Liverpool beat Leicester 4-1 at Anfield. That was the scoreline when Leicester visited Liverpool in 2015, just one of those last five consecutive games to be won by the home side.

Liverpool have won three games and Leicester two, also picking up a 2-2 draw in the last six. Honours have been fairly even, but the home side have not been beaten, with another constant being the presence of goals. There has been 19 goals in the last five meetings, just shy of four goals per game.

Reasons for Betting Tips

Despite being the hosts, Leicester are outsiders at best odds of 14/5 with Stan James. The draw can be backed at odds of 13/5 while Liverpool are best odds 10/11 also with bookmaker Stan James.

Liverpool have started the season OK, but seem to have a lot more to give. An opening day 3-3 draw with Watford sparked criticism, but four consecutive wins in Champions League qualifying and the Premier League eased concerns and demonstrated how much of a goal threat Klopp’s men are.

The wheels came off at the Etihad, but that may be understandable playing against such a good side with a numerical disadvantage. But even before that Liverpool were really up against it, and a midweek draw with Sevilla has possibly unsettled a few. An early exit from a competition where Liverpool have had success would be a little bit of a blow to the club this early in the season.

Leicester City present a very tough tie indeed, but the Foxes have lost three of five and struggled against the top teams. Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal have all beaten them so far. They gave away eight goals in those three games and Liverpool will certainly be a threat to their goal, but they did also net four of their own.

Most of the games between these two have been entertaining affair with the home side contributing more of the goals. It’s a toss up how Liverpool may approach this amidst such a busy schedule, but it’s a game both sides will want to win and have nothing to less.

Back our Score Prediction: Back a 2-2 draw at 11/2 with Bet365

Leicester are more likely to field a full strength starting team than Liverpool and have less depth in attack, so may have no choice but to use the likes of Vardy and Slimani if they want to progress. The latter may be more likely to get the nod here. Islam Slimani scored two and assisted one in the last round away to Sheffield United.
