Liverpool vs Sevilla Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
It’s been three years since Liverpool last hosted Champions League football at Anfield and on Wednesday they’ll welcome a Sevilla side that are UCL regulars these days.
Game: Liverpool vs Sevilla
Kick-off: Wednesday 13th September, 7.45PM
Liverpool have not hosted a Champions League proper game on this ground since 2014 when Basel ended a pretty forgettable campaign for 10 man Liverpool this evening. At the time there was a pretty clear sense of it being a banana skin fixture, but under Jurgen Klopp you have to feel Liverpool are better prepared this time around.
Sevilla are turning into Champions League regulars once again but far too often it’s just the build up on route to a deep run into the Europa League. The Spanish side are a threat and they’ve made a good start to the season having won three and drawn two so far, but their away form in the Champions League is not fantastic.
Liverpool are the bookmaker clear favourites at best odds of 3/4 with Bet365, whilst Betfred are offering 16/5 on the draw. Sevilla can be backed at 3/1 with bookmaker Unibet.
Whilst you have to expect Liverpool to be favourites here, the price tag of 3/4 is still a surprise to see. Despite what we should on paper get from Klopp’s men in this game, it is their first back at this level in a number of years and their last UCL campaign always found them left wanting.
Sevilla themselves are a bit more settled at this level in recent times and picked up useful points in Zagreb, Lyon and Juventus in last years group stage, so they cannot be overlooked. But such is the task of the away games in Seville and Moscow, each side involved will be aware of the importance of winning their home games.
With Maribor at home next Sevilla have perhaps the best opportunity of all the sides involved to steal pole position early on and four points would likely do that. Despite wins being infrequent in UCL away games, they’ve also only been beaten twice in their last 11 away European games.

As long as Sadio Mane is involved then it’s hard to see a team keeping Liverpool out at Anfield this season. They have nine goals in three games at home this season with their counter attacking style causing a lot of problems for sides. Sevilla will be happy to come here and attack themselves having score in 11 of 15 away games.
Back our Score Prediction: 2-2 draw at best odds of 13/1 with Bet365
Ben Yedder has scored three goals for Sevilla this season with Ganso chipping in a couple also. Firmino, Can and Mane all have two goals at Anfield already this season so there’s no shortage of attacking threat here and plenty to choose from. In big games you look to your big players, and it seems as if Sadio Mane is the life of any challenge Liverpool will make this season.
Back our Scorer Prediction: Sadio Mane to score at odds of 6/5 with Bet365
