Monaco vs Dortmund Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
The first leg of this tie was a thoroughly entertaining affair although the hosts were far from their best in the wake of the previous day's events. We expect a far more concentrated effort from Dortmund this time. Below are our match predictions, betting tips and preview.
Game: AS Monaco vs Borussia Dortmund
Venue: Stade Louis II
Kick-off: Wednesday 19th April, 7.45PM
Monaco’s fairytale season continues but such has been the level of their performances we’ve come to expect these things from them now. Their young core has put the rest of European on notice as they’ve swept aside sides in style and Europe and currently sit atop Ligue 1.
Borussia Dortmund looked a shell of themselves and perhaps should not have been playing the day after such an incident. Some players still look quite removed from the game even during the post-match interviews and some flat performances and uncharacteristic mistakes contributed to Monaco taking a 3-2 lead.
That’s not to take away from what the visitors did in the first leg. It was a perfect away performance encapsulated by Mbappe devastating finish on a breakaway against the run of the play. Dortmund had moments of their own but are likely to be far more organised.
AS Monaco are the underdogs despite being at home and can be backed at 2/1 with Betfred. The draw is available at 29/10 with Betfred whilst Borussia Dortmund are best odds 13/10. Clearly a reaction is expected from the trailing visitors.
Monaco had the luxury of (in-part) resting some key players on the weekend, but surprisingly trailed after 60 minutes at home to Dijon. Dirar and Falcao came off the bench to spark the turnaround which was capped by a fantastic Radamel Falcao free kick. Dortmund ran out comfortable winners and also welcomed Marco Reus back to the fold on the weekend but did withdraw him at half-time, using Ousman Dembele for only 45 minutes also.
Only twice in the past two years have Monaco been beaten here in competitive competition and that was against Lyon and PSG. And despite their fantastic results so far this season, they have been beaten here 4-1 by PSG. This is perhaps Monaco’s biggest test of the season so far and pass or fail, we can probably be sure of goals. Dortmund have a game to chase and the hosts have seen at three goals in 16 of 18 games.
Back our Free Betting Tip: Over 3.5 goals at 9/10 with Betfred.
The first leg finished 3-2 to Monaco. Some expected a cagey affair when they welcomed Man City here after a 5-3 away loss but it didn’t materialise. Eventually the game opened up and Monaco won 3-1. This time it’s the hosts leading from the first leg and they’re unlikely to sit on that.
Back our Score Prediction: a 3-3 draw at odds of 25/1 with Betfred.
Take your pick here. There’s no shortage of goals in either side here with both sides carrying an equally large threat. Mbappe, Falcao and Germain have all scored twice in Monaco’s last four games. Dortmund have scored twice at Madrid this season and Aubameyang usually leads their charge, but failure to score against Benfica leaves a Monaco goalscorer as the safer option.
Back our Scorer Prediction: Radamel Falcao to score at odds of 1/1 with Betfred.
