New York RB vs DC United Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
The Red Bulls come in to this one looking to extend their extremely good run of home form, whilst DC will be looking to bounce back after a heart breaking late loss against New York City last weekend. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.
Game: New York Red Bulls vs DC United
Venue: Red Bull Arena
Kick off: Sunday 11th September, 6pm
DC United took the lead against the blue half of New York last weekend, only to see that turned on it’s head. They did then manage a 91st minute goal that seemed to have snatched them a valuable and deserved point, only for Frank Lampard to go down the other end and score the winning goal a minute later.
The Red Bulls haven’t had the same problems that DC have had when it comes to stringing wins together. They’ve won nine of their last 10 at home and they continue to close the gap on their rivals City. Just a point separates the pair at the top of the table still and a win here will likely propel them top of the table.
Despite their new found local hatred for New York City, we shouldn’t forget this game is also a rivalry. New York have won the last six at home against DC, allowing just one goal.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
The odds on a Red Bull win are slim. The best you’ll get is 3/5 with Ladbrokes whilst the draw is available at 3/1 with Paddy Power and a DC United win is best odds 5/1 with Sky Bet. History doesn’t suggest the latter is very likely.
DC played so well for most of their 3-2 loss last weekend so it was a hard one to take. It broke a run of form that had seen them avoid defeat in six games. It was a streak that included a 6-2 home win over Chicago where DC finally re-discovered their shooting boots. It’s been a few seasons since we saw a DC team attack like they did on that night.
New York won’t be phased by their new found form and this will still very much be the home sides game to win. Despite their recent run, DC haven’t won an away game since May when they were fortunate to have beat Sporting 1-0. That remains their only win of the season. They’ve alternated a draw and a lose since then, and lost last time out.
Despite that little stat I don’t expect DC to take anything from this game. They’ve been beaten 3-0, 2-0 and 3-0 in their last three visits, lost their last six here and overall they’ve been dominated in this fixture for a few years now. They managed a 2-2 draw is poor conditions (at home earlier this season). New York Red Bulls -1AH is best odds 30/29 with Bet Victor and that's our free betting tip for this game.
It may not be another whitewash though as DC are clearly amongst the goals at the moment. That has done nothing to help the defensive side of their game, which has seen them concede freely. Red Bulls to win 3-1 seems a fair crack at a correct score prediction here. That’s priced at 12/1 with Paddy Power.
Bradley Wright-Phillips is on track to become the Red Bulls’ top scorer for a third season running. I personally thought his goal scoring would slow down without Henry beside him, he did lay on god knows how many assists that season. However, he’s grown as a player since his days in England. Back BWP to score at odds of 19/20 with Ladbrokes.
