Northampton vs Manchester United Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

This game has all the makings of a cup shock. United need to get back on track after losing three straight, whilst Town hadn’t lost in 31 games prior to this week. Jose’s comments suggest United will overlook this game. Below are our match predictions, preview and betting tips.

Game: Northampton Town vs Manchester United
Venue: Sixfields Stadium
Kick off: Wednesday, 21st September, 7.45pm

Manchester United have problems. Probably not problems to the extent where Northampton will knock them out here, but it’s not beyond them. Town hadn’t lost in 31 games which shows character at any level and until Jose admits he is the cause of most of United’s problems, they will continue. You can accuse the special one of being stubborn at times.

Northampton will be keen to get back to winning ways after a 3-1 defeat to Chesterfield at the weekend. It was their first for 32 league games. They’ll approach this game without any pressure on them though and they’ll have the full backing of the home crowd inside this small, uncomfortable stadium.

Jose has made comments dismissing the importance of this game, saying United will be judged on whether or not they got back on track against Leicester at the weekend. That is a very winnable game for the Foxes, and I doubt any United fan would accept losing to a League One team on Wednesday.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Bet365 and many other outlets are best odds 9/1 on Northampton causing an upset. It’s a price most people may dismiss, but this is the League Cup. The draw can be backed at 23/5 with Betfair whilst United are 1/3 at best with William Hill. NO value, whatsoever.

Sometimes you may stick bets at odds such as 1.30 to build your accumulator. Maybe a Barcelona, or a Man City at home. In my opinion anyone willing to use United at 1.30 away in the League Cup on current form shouldn’t be betting.

I’m going to put something out there now with the expectation that it should lose but if you approach the League Cup with the same mentality that you would approach league games, or if you are too quick to bet the favourites, you’re going to lose a lot of money and fast. Back Northampton to win or draw at odds of 27/10 with Bet Victor for a nice piece of value.

Naturally it will be very hard for Town to get a result here and that bet could be way off the mark, but I feel much better knowing I’ve taking a shot at long yet feasible odds as opposed to settling for being a ‘mug’ bettor. Aligning with our free tip, United and Northampton to draw 2-2 is available at odds of 22/1 with William Hill. Town drew seven games 2-2 last season.

Alex Revell netted in the last round of the League Cup, as Town again drew 2-2. He only has two goals so far this season but he has definitely played well enough to deserve more. Alex Revell can be backed to score any time at odds of 4/1 with Bet365.
