Northampton vs MK Dons Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
Life back in League One has seen Northampton fail to win but they have extended their unbeaten run to 29 league games. MK Dons have been better on their travels than at home. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.
Game: Northampton vs MK Dons
Venue: SIxfields Stadium
Kick off: Sunday 4th September, 12pm
Northampton have drawn all five of their games back in League One which has extended their unbeaten run to 29 games in league action. It wouldn’t have dampened fans spirits too much, but at some point they’ll need to start turning one point in to three.
Two of their games have finished 0-0 and they’ve taken the lead in the remaining three games before second half goals condemned them to 1-1 draws. Town have opened the scoring in their last 14 home league games but need to keep things tighter at the back.
MK Dons sit just above them in the table on seven points but have struggled at their home ground and flourished away. Carrying on from last season the Dons are tending to pick up more of their points away from home.
The Dons have eeked out 1-0 wins away to Shrewsbury and Rochdale this season. It will feel good to finally win again for a Dons side who were largely winless through 2016 thus far, but they came in to this game on the back of a reminder they still have a lot to do after losing 2-0 to Peterborough.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
Northampton are the favourites to win at best odds of 13/8 with Bet365, but how far will this string of draws extend. The draw can be backed at 5/2 with Sky Bet and must be appealing, whilst 2/1 on an MK Dons win with William Hill has legs.
Although the Dons have been more dangerous on the road, I wonder how much of that is down to the opponent. Shrewsbury and Rochdale both occupy the relegation zone and although Boro and Bradford are playoff contenders, losing at home is always disappointing.
Northampton are not going to survive on draws alone but there’s worst things you could be doing whilst acclimatising to the league. There must still be an air of confidence about a Town side who were so dominant in League Two last season, but there’s a lot of new faces to gel.
Both sides have been far from free flowing, with Town scoring just twice and MK Dons scoring five in five. Our free betting tip for this game is Under 2.5 goals at 4/5 with Boylesports. The hosts have been very resolute in defence.
I wouldn’t like to say that MK Dons will be the first side to topple Northampton in 30 league games, but they’ve put together a pair of 1-0 wins on the road and Town have struggled to score. I think this will be a low scoring game but I see Town as the side in better shape. They’ve been doing enough to win. Northampton to win 1-0 is best odds 15/2 with William Hill.
Town as have we have said scored just two goals this season, but Alex Revell is the man you’d expect to be their danger man this season. He’s best odds 2/1 with William Hill.
