Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal Predictions, Betting Tips & Preview
Arsenal’s style of football has often been no match for lower league teams in the cup over the years, but they’ll still face a stern test when they visit Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
Game: Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal
Venue: City Ground
Kick-off: 4.00PM, Sunday 7th January
Arsene Wenger’s side has drawn their last two Premier League games coming into this one, but they can feel hard done by with both penalty decisions that ultimately changed the course of the game and cost them. Hector Bellerin’s late equalise must have felt somewhat bitter-sweet.
Nottingham Forest sits 14th in the Championship table and may feel they’ve underachieved. Such is the quality of the league these days, many other sides feel the same. But Forest have become very inconsistent at home in recent seasons and the most damning stat is that they’ve already lost six of 13 home games as they search for a new manager.
It’s a big ask for managerless Forest who are priced at 5/1 with Betfair to win. The draw is available at 16/5 through Bet365 whilst Arsene Wenger’s reliable cup side are 1/2 with Coral.
Arsenal have lost just once in their last 22 FA Cup matches and have gone on to win the competition in three of the last four seasons. With their ailing league performances once again a problem, Arsenal may be hopeful of another cup triumph and should field a strong side here.
The hosts were much more organised under caretaker Gary Brazil when they travelled to Leeds United recently, but it was a 0-0 draw that in fairness could have been a 2-0 loss. Forest’s hosts missed guilt edge chances. The blueprint for Forest has to be similar here as they’re lacking the quality and confidence to really get at Arsenal, and it seems unlikely they can hold out for too long.

Arsenal have made light work of a lot of lower ranked opposition in this competition, and even when they’ve suffered regular setbacks they’ve shown the character to come through them. Forest have failed to score in their last three whilst Arsenal have scored nine in their last four games.
Back our Score Prediction: Arsenal 3-0 at 10/1 with Betfred
It’s never easy predicting an Arsene Wenger cup line-up as you know youth will get a chance, but Arsenal have a lot of quality on the bench right now and Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott if he stays and Olivier Giroud will all be keen to get minutes as starters under their belt. Giroud, in particular, may be deserving of a start and has 16 cup goals to his name in an Arsenal shirt.
Back our Scorer Prediction: Olivier Giroud at 21/20 with Bet365
