Oxford United vs Swindon Town Predictions, Betting Tips & Preview
Oxford vs Swindon Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
City vs United and Celtic vs Rangers may be the headline derby games this weekend, but this one could be just as feisty. Swindon are yet to win away whilst Oxford continue to pick up points at home. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.
Game: Oxford United vs Swindon Town
Venue: Kassam Stadium
Kick off: Saturday 10th September
Oxford have won their last two home games beating Peterborough and Rochdale since a 1-1 draw with Chesterfield on the opening day. All seven of their points have come at home in fact, whilst Town are winless on their travels. They did manage a 2-2 draw with Peterborough last weekend which gives them something to build on.
Despite not winning, Town have only tasted defeat in one of their four away games. They showed plenty of character to come from behind twice in a 2-2 draw with QPR in cup competition and despite the expectation they’d struggle this season, things are far from dire. Town have eight points thanks to back to back 1-0 home wins.
This will be the first league meetings between the sides since 2012 when Oxford were 1-0 victors at home. Meetings have been infrequent in recent years but United have won the last four including a cup tie here (2-0) last season.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
Oxford United are best odds 5/6 with Sky Bet to make it five straight against their local rivals whilst the draw is offered at 11/4 with Bet Victor. Bet365 are best odds for an away win, with Swindon Town available at 7/2.
Oxford and Swindon don’t meet regularly, but there’s still a healthy rivalry there. Town have had a miserable town when travelling up the road to play here, losing seven of eight. History is there for the changing, but sometimes it’s worth considering.
Town have, in my opinion at least, done very well this season. A lot has been going on for the club and their activity in the transfer market was poor. They have a very small and very young squad and I think they’ve picked up more points than we’d expect from the games they’ve had.
Town also have a game in hand where they’ll host Bristol Rovers – a game which they were well on top when it was called off due to bad weather, and I think it would be a mistake to go with the odds on this one. Back Swindon Town +0.5AH as our free betting tip at odds of 21/20 with Bet Victor.
Neither side has been prolific this season. Often when these sides meet one side fails to score, but the games have always been tight affairs. Town will also want to improve on last weeks defensive showing. A correct score prediction of 1-1 can be backed at best odds of 13/2 with William Hill.
Goals have come from strikers only for Oxford this season, whilst Town have yet to get one of their front men on the score sheet. Four of their five goals have come from the midfield. The biggest goal threat here seems to be Wes Thomas. He has three goals in six games and he is 13/8 with Paddy Power to score in this game.
