RB Leipzig vs Schalke Predictions, Betting Tips & Preview
Two sides with ambitions of automatically qualifying for the Champions League meet on Saturday evening as RB Leipzig will welcome second-placed Schalke to the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig.
Game: RB Leipzig vs Schalke
Venue: Red Bull Arena
Kick-off: Saturday, 13th January, 5.30pm
RB Leipzig captured the imagination of Europe when they appeared to be contenders to beat Bayern to the title in a Leicester-esque season but things didn’t quite pan out. In the end the Bundesliga new boys finished a full 15 points behind Bayern Munich, but did at least qualify for the Champions League.
That will be the aim again this season as Munich find themselves 11 and 13 points respectively ahead of Leipzig and their visitors Schalke here. The hosts will need to snap a five-game winless streak if they’re to catch Schalke in second and keep moving towards that goal.
The visitors have lost just three times in 17 Bundesliga games this season and find themselves unbeaten in 14 across all competitions. Despite their good form in all competitions, Schalke have won just three times on the road this season and have struggled to keep the top half opposition out.
RB Leipzig are best odds 1/1 with bookmaker Bet365 to pick up all three points here whilst the draw is available at 5/2 with Coral. Schalke are a big price at 29/10 through Unibet.
Both sides carry a goal threat and despite RB Leipzig’s overall wobble on paper. they’re had the break to re-group and only Hertha Berlin have beaten them at home this season. Leipzig have netted 17 times in their eight home games whilst Schalke rarely fail to score this season. Both meetings last season saw both sides score, and the hosts will be keen to avenge an early season defeat at the Veltins.
Back our Free Betting Tip: Both teams to score at 7/10 with Bet365
Leipzig have scored two goals in six of their last seven home games and should be keen to take the game to their visitors. Schalke are dangerous on the break and having already put two past Leipzig this season have scored two or more in five of their last six league games. Everything points toward goals.
Back our Score Prediction: 2-2 draw at 12/1 with Betfred
Timo Werner has scored in two of the three meetings between the side and has found the net in eight of his sides 15 Bundesliga games so far this season. He is just one of seven Leipzig players to score more than once this season but has been by far the most prevalent threat.
Back our Scorer Prediction: Timo Werner at 7/5 with Ladbrokes
