Reading vs Ipswich Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Reading and Ipswich have both made inconsistent starts to the season, which could make this a particularly tough game to call. The sides traded home wins last season. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.

Game: Reading vs Ipswich
Venue: Madjeski Stadium
Kick off: Friday 9th September

Reading and Ipswich have both been inconsistent so far this season, but things could be taking a more positive spin after each side won their last game to make it three without a lose. It could have easily gone the other way with their previous games being drawn.

Reading’s win came on the road against Cardiff which would have been pleasing after the royals struggled away to Wolves and Newcastle. Ipswich’s win was more expected as they held off Preston in a 1-0 win that made it two wins and a draw at home.

The tractor boys are on their travels here though and have failed to score on the road so far. It’s still early days and form can be short lived and misleading, but they didn’t look at all clinical against Wolves and Brentford, but they did create chances.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Reading are the favourites here at best odds of 5/4 with Bet Victor whilst the draw can be baced at 23/10 at the same outlet. Ladbrokes are best odds on an away win at odds of 5/2. So far these odds have held firm with both sides being equally well backed on the handicap.

The fact that Ipswich have been creating a lot of chances home and away makes me think we shouldn’t read too much in to their failure to score on the road. Despite looking good at home, Reading have conceded two goals in each of their last two home games, and gave up four away to Newcastle. Surprisingly, Jaap Stam’s side are struggling to defend.

Ipswich have allowed five in five after a sloppy start but overall they’ve not had problems. Only Norwich have broken them down once in the last three games and as always Mick McCarthy’s men look very organised.

Ipswich games have been tight, but they’re capable of scoring more. Reading games have been very open and they’ve struggled to keep it tight, so this could be the perfect opponent for Ipswich to kick start things on the road. Our free betting tip is Over 2.5 goals at odds of 6/5 with Sky Bet.

It’s a tough one to call because we don’t know how true Ipswich’s goal scoring form away is any more than we know how long Reading will keep conceeding for. At some point Town will start scoring just like Stam will tighten this team up. I think Reading’s style will dictate this game and make it an open one though. Ipswich can get their first goal on the road here, but things will be tough until a new top scorer emerges. Reading to win 2-1 is best odds 8/1 with Stan James.

Being without Murphy is a blow to Ipswich and they’ll have to collectively bridge the gap left behind. Reading have had similar problems getting their strikers on the score sheet, but I think that will change also. Yann Kermorgant is leading the line and will get goals this season. He’s available to score at any time at 11/5 with Bet Victor.
