Republic of Ireland vs Georgia Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Ireland and George will meet once again in competitive action on Thursday, in what will be their fourth meeting in three years. Ireland have been absolutely dominant and will hope for that to continue. Below are our predictions, betting tips and preview.

Game: Republic of Ireland vs Georgia
Venue: Aviva Stadium
Kick-off: Thursday 6th October, 7.45pm

Ireland have dominated this fixture from every angle. I remember a late show capped by Aiden McGeady saved their blushes and earned them the three points last time they visited their opponents, but that small blip aside, it’s all been one way traffic.

Ireland have won all seven meetings with Georgia with four of those coming at home. Several of those games are in the past, but this will be the fourth competitive game in the space of three years between these sides. Ireland have taken maximum points from those games, outscoring their opponents seven to one.

Two of those meetings though were only decided by the one goal, including Georgia’s last visit here. Although they ultimately lack quality, we’ve seen them set up with a defensive mind set time and time again, and they are capable of frustrating their opponents. They were more than a match for Austria in their opening game.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Ireland are short odds at best price of 1/2 with William Hill. The draw can be backed at best odds of 3/1 with Bet365 and the visitors Georgia are a big 17/2 with Boylesports, and for good reason.

Although Georgia were beaten 2-1 by Austria, the positives were there. The big winner from match day one was probably Ireland. Despite beating the likes of Germany on their travels recently, many had expected a tough time for Ireland in Serbia. They were more than a match for their hosts on the day, hanging in their doggedly and taking a deserved equaliser late in the day.

This is an Ireland side that has now scored against Italy, Poland, Germany twice and now Serbia in the last five minutes of games in the past two seasons. They took four points from two games against the World Champions and gave a good account of themselves at the Euro’s. This is clearly a national team that now has an identity and unlimited amounts of self belief.

Last seasons 1-0 win over Georgia was a game in which Ireland probably deserved to win by more. But a win is a win in qualifying, and if Ireland make it to back to back competitions, few will remember the where, when and how. I think it’s a safe bet to suggest the hosts win this game, and they’ve shown in the past they can break Georgia down when it matters. Back Republic of Ireland -1AH at best odds of 7/8 with Bet365 as our free betting tip.

Although they did compete well, Georgia were very open against Austria and should have let in more. They’ll come here and set up to frustrate and whilst they’re more than capable of that, I think Ireland are in too good a place to slip up against such sides at present. Back Ireland to win 3-0 at odds of 9/1 with Paddy Power.

Life after Robbie Keane for Ireland will be OK, but it remains to be seen where their next record scorer comes from. They have a good depth of options up top and everyone seems to be chipping in, but Jonathan Walters was a standout performer at home during the last qualifying campaign. Back Walters to score at odds of 21/10 with Bet365.
