Trinidad and Tobago vs United States Predictions, Betting Tips & Preview
Things are coming to an even more dramatic climax in North America, as the United States, Panama and Honduras are all vying for a place in the World Cup, but it’s the USA that are in pole position as they travel to Trinidad.
Game: Trinidad and Tobago vs United States
Venue: Ato Boldon Stadium
Kick-off: Wednesday 11th October, 01.00AM
The United States have bounced between awful and blindingly spectacular in this campaign, cementing themselves in third place thanks to emphatic 6-0 and 4-0 wins over their nearest challengers Honduras and Panama. That could be the difference come the end of the group, with Trinidad being their only other win.
Trinidad sit bottom of the group having only won one game and lost eight in this qualifying phase. They’ve been soundly beaten by all involved in the groups, although the USA took their time to see off their challenge with a 2-0 win. The Trinidadians have been much, much better playing at home.
Mexico and Honduras outright struggled here despite winning by a single goal, and 4th placed Panama were beaten 1-0. The United States need just one point to secure their place thanks to a superior goal difference, but which USA side will show up in San Fernando.
Trinidad and Tobago will want to go out in a blaze of glory, but it won’t be easy. They’re 7/1 with Paddy Power whilst even the draw is chunky at 7/2 with Sky Bet. The USA are slim pickings at best odds 4/11 through Unibet.
Despite the criticism being thrown at the United States, it should be highlighted they are a young side with many transitions taking place. Arena’s group are improving, and they have avoided defeat in Honduras, Panama and Mexico. Those are places they’ve struggled greatly in the past.
The USA have put themselves in the position of needing just one point against by far the worst side in the group to secure an automatic spot at the next World Cup. There’s no need to go out of their way to play an open and attacking game here, and Arena’s men should have enough to get a professional job done.
Back our Free Betting Tip: USA: Win to Nil at 6/5 with Bet365
The USA have kept things fairly tight in tougher circumstances and surroundings in Mexico, Panama and Honduras. That recent draw in Mexico marked a three-game unbeaten run inside the Azteca, allowing just one goal in that run. The USA have shown that they are adapting to big games on the road well.
Back our Score Prediction: USA to win 2-0 at 11/2 with Bet365
Christian Pulisic was at the double in the reverse fixture and has seven goals for the USA since the first stage of qualifying began back in 2015. He got the ball rolling against Panama and in assisting Jozy Altidore seemed to strike up a nice three-way partnership between the two and Wood, all of whom scored and assisted.
Back our Scorer Prediction: Christian Pulisic to score (Awaiting Odds)
