Wigan vs Bournemouth Predictions, Betting Tips & Preview
Wigan looked like causing an almighty shock when they took a 2-0 league at the Vitality stadium, but Premier League quality shone through as Bournemouth battled back. The return leg promises to be just as tricky for Eddie Howe’s men.
Game: Wigan vs Bournemouth
Venue: DW Stadium
Kick-off: Wednesday, 17th January, 7.45pm
Wigan took a 2-0 lead last Saturday and deserved to beat Bournemouth. So often you see a chance for a lower league side slip away in the dying seconds, and the replay is a very different matter. But Wigan are flying high and have only been breached once in their last seven games.
Eddie Howe’s men were terrific as they turned around a 1-0 deficit to beat Arsenal. It was their first ever win over the Gunners. The Premier League is a priority and they’re in a prime spot to let themselves down here. Bournemouth’s injury problems have also lead to a severe lack of depth upfront and that could harm them here.
Wigan started their FA Cup winning campaign in the 2013/14 season with a narrow win over Bournemouth after drawing the first tie. Wigan’s FA Cup record remains pretty impeccable, as only a penalty shootout ruined their chances of retaining the cup the next year, as Wigan drew 1-1 with Arsenal in the semi-final. Wigan have lost just three of their last 21 FA Cup ties.
Wigan have fallen from grace since winning this competition, but they’re favoured here at 11/8 with Betfair. The draw is available at 5/2 through Bet365 whilst the Premier League visitors, Bournemouth, at 21/10 also with Bet365.
Wigan may be a league one side but they’re more than capable of toppling a Bournemouth side who should make a lot of changes. Bournemouth’s fringe players and a mix of youth could feature in this game, and it remains to be seen if the likes of Ibe, Wilson and Afobe will even be risked in the squad. Wigan have a real chance of an ‘upset’ here.

Bournemouth found two goals in the first leg but didn’t need to rotate. That won’t be the case here, whereas Wigan may feel they can afford to go strong given their position and continued good form in the league. The Premier League side should have the quality to make this competitive, but Wigan have goals in them.
Back our Score Prediction: Wigan 3-1 at 16/1 with Ladbrokes
If WIgan field a strong side, and they should, then there’s a couple of potential scorers here. Will Grigg scored in the first leg and the Northern Irishman has four in four in this year's FA Cup. His league form has seen him net a further seven goals. However, Nick Powell was once touted as a potential Premier League starlet, and the Athletic midfielder still shows glimpses. Powell has 11 goals this season.
Back our Scorer Prediction: Nick Powell at 2/1 with Bet365
