Accrington Stanley vs Burnley Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Burnley played the role of underdogs fantastically well on Saturday as they beat Liverpool 2-0, but the roles will be reversed here for this League Cup tie on Wednesday. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.

Game: Accrington Stanley vs Burnley
Venue: Crown Ground
Kick off: 7.45pm, Wednesday 24th August

Burnley have made a good start to life back in the Premier League. The Clarets toppled Liverpool 2-0 at the weekend to get their campaign up and running. Accrington Stanley have four points from four games so far this season and look unlikely to repeat last years near heroics.

A cup shock isn’t beyond them, though. Coleman’s men held Bradford to a draw here in the previous round before beating them on penalties. There’s an obvious difference in class between them and the Premiership side here, though.

Stanley held Championship Hull to a 2-2 draw here last season but I don’t see that this current team has the same character. Another such result won’t be easy, but Stanley can take confidence from knowing that Burnley have fell at the first three hurdle in the last three seasons, including a 1-0 loss to Port Vale last season.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Accrington Stanley are best odds of 3/1 with Bet365 whilst the draw is available at 29/10. Burnley are the clear favourites here although their price holds value if you think Premiership side’s class will prevail. They can be backed at 4/5 with Sky Bet.

Whether this is the League Cup or not I have to think getting a Premiership side at this price against a League Two side is good value. Burnley aren’t considered to have the quality that other top flight sides have, but coming off of a 2-0 win over Liverpool says it all. Dyche’s men also don’t really have the luxury of mass rotation which is a good thing for bettors in this case.

I also think the Burnley boss will see the importance of using games like this to gain some momentum. Regardless of the level of opposition, it has to be a big positive for Burnley to secure two wins in their first three games since returning to the Premier League.

Despite their shock exit last season I very much see this Burnley team as the sort of switched on, well organised group that shouldn’t really fall foul to a cup shock. I think they’ll be well prepared for this test and I expect them to come through it.

It won’t be easy conditions to play in at the Crown Ground, although the pitch at this stage should allow Burnley to play football and the geography means they could be well supported on Wednesday. Our free betting tip is Burnley to win at 4/5 with Sky Bet.

I don’t think the Premier League side will have too many problems staying in control of this game and they’re best odds 15/2 with Bet Victor to secure a 2-0 win.

Lucas Jutkiewicz has come off the bench for Burnley so far and may get a chance to start here, so back him to get on the score sheet at a price of 13/8 with Sky Bet.
